for Tammy
On the whole, I was underwhelmed by Chicago. I know that they spend a lot of the broadcast focusing on the flops and talking about the poeple with "stories" or who are odd characters, and that we only really got to see less than a third of those who made it to Hollywood, but I can only go on what they aired.
The only people who really stood out to me were the Brittenum twins, specifically Darrell. They sounded good and looked smooth, stylish, and poised. I'll go on a limb and predict that Darrell will make top-12 and that Terrell will probably just miss the cut for the semifinals.
Oddly enough, it was the other family groups that had some of the better auditions... although in the other cases, there was clearly one better than the other to me. I like the raw talent of Leah Barretsmith and Joshua Simmons, though both need to show big improvement in Hollywood to make the semifinals.
I don't think Gina Glocksen is going far... a nice voice, but I get the nagging "Lindsey" feelijng about her, which is that I'm going to forget what she sang 5 minutes after I hear her. Mandisa Hundley just doesn't strike me as "Idol" material. Zachary Smits has too "breathy" of a tone for me --I doubt he has much support under that voice. The "crooner" David Radford has less developed talent that John Stevens did two years ago, but he looks much less likely to fold under the lights... a possible darkhorse (especially since Simon loves the crooners) but needs to wow them in Hollywood.
And then we get to "Crazy Dave" Hoover... yikes. How much of that was an act, how much was the result of going late on Day 2, how much was caffeiene (or other drug), and how much is it just him? If that is his normal (or chemically-altered) personality, I pity the other two members of his trio group, should he get that far.
The only comment I'll make on the losers is that the Paris Hilton impersonator (Crystal something-or-other) at least has more singing talent than Paris Hilton has talent in anything. Unfortunately for Crystal, that still isn't saying much.
Here's hoping Denver turns out better!
Sure, why not! Last night was a load of fun.
Thanks!
We'll see him in Denver, it looks like. Call me skeptical, but I doubt the guy has any versatility or subtlety.
Maybe they're "So You Think You Can Dance" rejects who still want the limelight.

Was Gina the dental assistant? I think you're right.

LOL!
You've been added :)
The bald rocker was on the local news last night. His audition is from Greensboro, NC next Tuesday. He reminds me of Seth Green for some reason.
Thanks. My dog did come back in, btw. Took half an hour and a couple treats, though
I have a sneaking suspicion they guy's on some sort of anti epilepsy medication. I thought I caught his eyelids doing some odd rapid fluttering while he was singing (stress? late for his meds?). Of course, the same symptoms could easily apply to someone on crack or heroin.
Paula almost certainly passed him just to p*** off Simon, I just wish she'd said as much.
Sure thing - thank you!
I think your analysis is pretty well on the money.
I am a bit disturbed about Crazy Dave. The dud is seriously disturbed. Surely, we know he won't go beyond the next round, yet giving this poor fella a false sense of hope seems cruel. I'm not sure though, that he will even realize what has happened to him.
Who knows? Maybe there's a drug test at that point, and Paula's encouraging him to go just so he can get the medical help he needs?
Am I responsible for starting this whole Dunkleman thingee?..Gawd, I hope not..
That is sooooooooooo bad..
Now wouldn't that be irony, Paula encouraging someone to get off drugs...
Good morning...a question...I liked the other Barretsmith sister, the first one who sang, better...what am I missing?
FYI..It's Cyrstal (meth)
My Husband liked 'Crazy Dave' right away...course, my Hubby is named Dave so maybe that's it. lol
One thing about this guy tho...he certainly captures your attention. His 'buzz' was contagious, at least for Paula and Randy, and that's a big part of making a 'celebrity'. A crazy brand of charisma perhaps!
Looking forward to this season's show! Who knows what will come of it. It's been fun watching the careers of previous season. I like Kelly Clarkson more now than in her 'Idol' days and think she has a shot at a long career, as does Carrie and prossibly Josh Grasin. I'd like to see Bo Bice's career really take off this year..he seems like a deserving fellow. Caught him on CMT's 'In The Moment'.
Hard to quantify... I was taking brief notes and on quick impressions. I certainly preferred Brooke's "look", but Leah's voice struck me as both good and a little different from the run-of-the-mill female vocalist. Of course, all of this is extremely subjective and trying to guess who will or won't go far based on a first-impression 15-second clip is an inexact science at best. It's easy enough to weed out the untalented and just plain-old bland at this point, but telling the difference between very good and great requires more to look at.
