I think he is the devil. I don't think he is the devil, but I wonder about him being a fake.
FNC played an interview with Simon from a few months back and he said that this bunch are the most greedy for the win bunch and that most of them ARE NOT NICE PEOPLE. He said it more than once and he meant it.

He said they act nice for the camera but that they were not nice people away from the camera. I thought it was very interesting, too. He said they were the most driven and not nice group so far.
He was also asked about Kelly Clarkson and her not mentioning American Idol at some awards show where she got an award and he said he would giver her the benefit of the doubt and consider it an oversight and not an intentional snub. They prodded him again about it but he stuck by what he said.
I think the judges take turns being good cop, bad cop to the contestants. Someone needs to be supportive but someone also needs to keep reality on the table. I think Simon isn't always the prick he appears to be. The one exception I see is that he does make too many deliberately hurtful comments about people's appearances. jmo
