Ace is the only guy that has a decent chance at winning, although he is going to have to stop picking George Micheal songs.

Have to agree with you. When I heard his song choice, I cringed. I thought he did a good job though! Then, along came Paula's comments and I cringed again. She may have given him the kiss of death with her comments.

I so disappointed that I missed watching the ladies. I watched the Olympics and forgot. :(

Chris, Taylor and Ace will be the only guys make it to the final eight.

Given those three, I hope Ace wins and Chris and Taylor go to other labels to cut decent records so th AI lable won't ruin them with crappy, cookie-cutter music.

Looked like a mediocre high school production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Hahahaha--it really did. Too bad. He has a good voice, but he didn't want to be "labeled a crooner". Oh well.

(Patrick) that song was seriously forgettable

Very. I wouldn't be surprised if he's one of the bootees tonight.

(The first was Simon and Garfunkle.)

I loved S&G...I would play their album very quietly each night as I fell asleep....I was in HS at the time.....

When I heard Gedeon's interview clip, I couldn't shake the impression of "southern Baptist preacher" -- he's got the energy, and ryhthm of the "patter" down pat.

I agree. And he won't stop smiling!

That might be the problem. He smiles TOO much.

I enjoyed your review. It was more entertaining than last night's performances.

I have some general advice for the guys: Be yourself. Stop imitating pop stars of the past. Some of you could clean up nicely, if you tried. ENUNCIATE! If I didn't have closed captioning on my TV, I wouldn't have understood any lyrics. Don't preen toward the camera. That is so GAY!

Chris Daughtry has a good voice, but his appearance is off-putting. He looks like he belongs to the Aryan Resistance Movement, with the shaved head and weird beard/sideburns. Did he leave the Doc Martins and the big pocket chain/wallet at home?

Taylor Hicks sings exceedingly well, but I can't get over his Tourette's-like movements. Of course, as a studio recording star, he would be OK.

Elliott has ZERO sex appeal. A flat personality. Not a winner.

I guess that leaves Ace, if he improves his choice of material. I hated the creepy pedophile lyrics of his song.

In all, I'm disappointed in the guys, and I think a girl will take it away from them this year.

I almost agree with your final twelve; but substitute Melissa for Mandisa, and Gedeon for Sway.

ROTFLMAO!!

I said it last night and I'll say it again, gentlemen, do not get creative with the facial hair unless you are in a heavy metal band (full time), a tattoo artist, or in auto body repair.

Early Finals Prediction - Ace and Katherine.

Oh please, God, not Ace.

Something is just "off" about him and semi-creepy/sleezy.

I really just can't get past the whole "Ace" name thing. It's so 50's motorcycle gang.

I have to comment on the name "Ace". I have a grandson, and that is his nickname, real name being the Biblical "Asa".

That makes sense!

What does he tell people his name is, Ace or Asa? Just curious.

I work with a guy named Asa and it cracks me up when customers call for him. People ask for Ass-a, Azz-ah, some people just give up and spell it. It boggles my mind. It seems so straight forward to me.

Thank you so much! I love getting a chuckle out of the freepers, cause I don't know anyone else who makes me laugh as hard as some of the people around here.

Good morning, Jonny. I watched all of this week's performances back-to-back, starting with the guys. Leaving aside the two things I liked best -- the Jeff Gordon commerical and the one for 'Ice Age' ((grin)) -- I came up with my top six contestants at this point:

My top three guys are Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry and Ace Young.

My top three girls are Katharine McPhee, Lisa Tucker and Paris Bennett (with an honorable mention to Mandisa).

All of the others, for different reasons, are forgettable to me, even though there are some with good voices.

I would rate my top six this way for now:

(1) Katharine -- best voice by far, by FAR. She's attractive and interesting, but her stage presence could use some work.
(2) Lisa, a natural performer. Cute, gifted, remarkably poised for a 16-year-old.
(3) Taylor, also a natural performer, and he has the novelty factor working for him. I'm warming up to him.
(4) Chris and Ace tied. They are very different. Chris has a somewhat better voice and is a better performer, but his looks leave me cold. Ace has the looks and a good voice, but is not a natural performer.
(5) Paris, not a great voice, but an excellent performer. I agree with what you noticed, Jonny. She seems almost too trained for such a young girl.

It will be interesting to see how these six develop throughout the competition. I would be surprised if all six were not among the top 12. I don't yet have a personal favorite, but I have to admit it's hard not to be drawn in by Taylor's infectious joy.

You know, Palladin, you've hit on something. I've been wondering if Taylor might have some kind of condition for which he takes medication. He's just too over-the-top somehow. In any case, just putting out studio albums does not make a career. Performers have to go out, tour and promote themselves and their music. The record companies suck so much of the profits off CDs that performers make their biggest bucks touring and branding themselves, if they get big enough to do so.

Taylor has novelty going for him, but that same novelty can get old unless he can somehow grow past it.
