From watching the city auditions you sure couldn't tell, but I think this is the best group ever. Pretty girls and boys who can really, really sing. This is going to be a good competition.

This is going to be a good competition.

I think so too. Raising the age limit was the best decision AI ever made. It provides a richer group of performers.

Separated at birth -

Snicker...they do look like brothers. Amazing. The AI kid is just 17. I wonder if he ever heard of the Brady Bunch. He really, really, really needs to change his hair style.

This should make "Barry Manilow night" very interesting :)

Groan...Barry Manilow night. ;-)

Early this morning I came across a review on ET or MTV or somewhere like that, and the reviewer wrote that Hicks is doing a Ray Charles impersonation. The comment was picked up on several other boards. Soon as I read it, I knew what the reviewer meant as far as Hicks' mannerisms. However, I don't know if the reviewer meant it as a slam or a compliment.

Obviously plenty of people like Hicks so I expect him to get into the top 12.

I was just scrolling through some of the comments since last night--wow, I can feel the tension already.

Lots of different opinions, which I think is great fun. I love reading what others have to say about the contestants.

Was she joking or is she that conceited?

Could be both, because she might have been trying to hide her conceit behind a joke. Hard to say. The whole thing is a little spooky -- at the Grammys Carrie looked like she was trying to become a junior Dolly Parton, and now we have Kellie Pickler trying to become Carrie Underwood.

Pickler was interviewed last night on the local news and I don't know ... I can't put my finger on it, but she seemed too "aware" of herself. Like she knew how to tilt her head just so, how to smile and laugh at the right times ...

I might be reading too much into it. But the impression I got was that Kellie Pickler knows exactly what she's doing. It was a bit manipulative, IMO.

Pickler and Daughtery are my picks right now.

Daughtery's story is heartwarming.

I liked him too!! Couldn't understand why he was dropped. He must not have done well once he got to HOllywood.

You're welcome--I had to post it before somebody beat me to it :)

Of the four, I like Daughtry the most.

But like Wolfstar said, my list of favorites is very fluid right now. I only have two or three favorites. Anything can happen!

We'll get five hours' worth of Idol next week :)

I don't think you are, Jonny. A lot of people, both here on FR and on other boards have said much the same thing you did. There's something phony about that girl. For one thing, she's not a naive, little miss po' Southern girl. She's been on at least one other reality show and has been knocking around trying to get into show biz for awhile.

She has a good voice, but there's something about her that is off-putting.

I screeched when I found out he was dropped. It was only a written screech here on this thread, but I had to emote somewhere. ;-)

Actually, it's unfortunate. Apparently, he just felt he wasn't ready.

I have to agree with you there, Jonny, although to be fair, I simply do not have a fix on the girl dressed in brown in that photo.

The tall blonde guy who had the grunge cowboy look on this week's shows did a passable version of 'Broken Road' (a song I love, BTW). I'm willing to give him a chance.

As for Ms. Pickler, the consensus seems to be building that she won't go far.

There's something phony about that girl.

I know what it is now--beauty pageant training. Pickler knows the little tricks that are supposed to endear her to judges, how to present herself, etc. And why is it every time we see her we have to be reminded that "her dad has been in and out of prison"? It was touching the first ten times I heard it, now not so much.

And her voice is irritating too. I say that as someone who is blessed/cursed with a Southern accent of my own. When she auditioned and said "Reeeeeeally?" it set my teeth on edge. It didn't sound real. Like John Edwards' syrupy twang.

I think you're correct--she's trying to imitate Carrie.
