for Tammy
Nix = Nicks..numbnuts..
Re Stevie Scott, right now I don't like her look, but I like her voice a lot. (The look will change once the AI stylists get their hands on the contestants.) Vocally, I like the fact that Stevie seems to have her own style. She doesn't try to mimic today's overwrought R&B music, which is a big plus for her as far as I'm concerned. She's classically trained, so she has great control and might have the flexibility to handle the several styles of music AI finalists must do. I think she's my darkhorse pick among the girls so far this year.
Thanks for the link. Great info and useful photos.
Assessing Stevie Nicks? That's hard to be really objective, because I have to try and do that knowing she's had a pretty successful singing career. On the whole, I don't like the strained quality in her voice (ditto for Rod Stewart), but there's no denying it worked out for her.
The other one (David) looks a lot like him -
I think the undertaker was Jason Horn and he didn't make it. Husband didn't like Taylor at first but liked his harmonica last night. We'll see how he sounds singing all song styles.
For entertainment purposes only:
6:1 | Katherine McPhee |
7:1 | Lisa Tucker |
10:1 | Ace Young |
10:1 | Paris Bennett |
12:1 | Patrick Hall |
20:1 | Ayla Brown |
20:1 | David Radford |
20:1 | Kellie Pickler |
20:1 | Taylor Hicks |
20:1 | Will Makar |
40:1 | Brenna Gathers |
40:1 | Chris Daughtry |
40:1 | Elliott Yamin |
50:1 | Becky O'Donohue |
100:1 | Bucky Covington |
100:1 | Gedeon McKinney |
100:1 | Heather Cox |
100:1 | Jose Penala |
100:1 | Kinnik Sky |
100:1 | Melissa McGhee |
100:1 | Mandisa |
100:1 | Stevie Scott |
200:1 | Bobby Bennett |
200:1 | Kevin Covais |
(That comes up to a bombined probability of about 100.7%, which leaves only a modest cut for the "house".)
I'm impressed..we'll be able to flow along..they should be voted off BOTTOM Up.if you are a good judge of what makes teenagers tick?..which ain't necessarily the same thing as being a good judge of talent..
The other kid, David, has a killer smile. Very, very cute. Both of them are cute.
As for Taylor, I finally figured out what I dislike about him so much. He's doing a Ray Charles impersonation, right down to the blind man's awkward movements and harmonica playing.
Well... that's a BIG "if". I'd also point out that this preliminary set of odds is a lot of guesswork, as we haven't seen much, if any, of several of the contestants.
Oh... and as for going off "bottom up", not necessarily. Someone who's longer odds to win the whole thing could easily outlast someone with shorter odds who has a bad week.
I do too. He's got a great voice and looks that will get the women vote. He does not come across as phoney as Constitine did last year. His competition will come from one of the women, not sure who yet.
That's it exactly. I have never liked Hicks even though he seems to be popular with AI viewers. Couldn't figure out what I was missing -- or seeing that others weren't -- until I saw some reviewers comment about how he's doing a Ray Charles impersonation. Then it hit me.
When he walked in with the harmonica last night I thought, well the guy has music in his soul and can play at least one instrument. But then when he pulled that schtick in the chair moving like a blind man, that's when I knew for sure reviewers who have made this observation are right. He's doing a Ray Charles impersonation, and there's something really distasteful about it, to me at least.
Yes, David is 17 and Will is 16. I agree, last night's clip didn't impress me, however Tuesday night's did. Go figure. I think someone pointed out that Will looks like Peter Brady, it's true!
When I see Taylor I think Joe Cocker, but maybe Ray Charles is better.
The competition is Ace's to lose, IMHO.
I'll put $200 on Ace to win, and $100 on Katherine McPhee to show.
To show what? Are you expecting an AI "wardrobe malfunction"? (Besides, if that were to happen, why couldn't it be Rebecca O'Donohue?)
:)
Wow! So interesting how each of us sees something very different in these contestants. That's part of what makes AI fun.
Anyway, as a group, I think the guys are better this year than the girls. To me, everyone of the girls with the possible exception of Stevie and Lisa, is sort of been-there-done-that to me.
I totally disliked Katherine McPhee last night after initially liking her a lot during the auditions phase. I thought she way over-sang during her solo. I do like Lisa Tucker, but Simon has had something against the younger contestants from the very beginning of AI. And even though everyone likes to think they make up their own mind when they vote, the judges DO sway the voting.
There are several really good voices among the guys. Ace is a heartthrob, no question about it, but I don't think he's the best singer among the guys. I absolutely DO NOT LIKE Patrick Hall even though he has a good voice. The two "crooner" teenagers are cute as can be, but I go back to Simon not liking the younger contestants.
Nobody will ever be able to sell me on Hicks. Period. Especially now that I recognize he's impersonating Ray Charles. I enjoy Ray Charles, but don't like a cheap knock off.
That brings me to Elliott Yamin. Great voice, but absolutely zero in the looks and charisma departments.
Bucky did a good rendition of Broken Road -- at least what little we heard of it -- but I hate his scruffy blonde cowboy look.
The rest of the guys don't interest me.
I will admit to being biased in the regard to the fact that I prefer watching the girls...
Very understandable. As a red-blooded female, I, of course, prefer watching the guys. I'm really hoping a guy wins it this year.
