Of course they make the GOP wife to be the nut. Don't read too much into it. The show doesn't make a big deal about party affiliations. The only reason we Palmer was a Dem is because in the first season he was running in the Dem primaries. Other than that, parties haven't been mentioned.

Wasn't Logan a Dem? If not, why would he have asked Palmer into the WH during season 4 and allow him a role in anything?
That would be the biggest part of fantasy in the show if Logan is a Republican.
