Because Sean Astin played "Rudy"
# Rudy (1993) .... Daniel E. 'Rudy' Ruettiger
Rudy grew up in a steel mill town where most people ended up working, but wanted to play football at Notre Dame instead. There were only a couple of problems. His grades were a little low, his athletic skills were poor, and he was only half the size of the other players. But he had the drive and the spirit of 5 people and has set his sights upon joining the team.

Call Limbaugh. He always has the inside on '24'.

Ah, well, suspension of disbelief that a President can be so effing incompetent and self-serving. Sigh. Jimmy Carter, proof positive.

No sheet? I saw that movie, or parts of it, but didn't recognize him as being the guy who played Rudy. Thanks for the info.
It seems I watch less and less TV every year, but I've watched a lot of it in my time, and I have to say that this is probably the best series ever, IMO. (Honorable mention to Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, and the first 4 or 5 seasons of All in the Family.) I thought M*A*S*H was pretty good too when I was a kid, before I knew enough to see what flaming libs Alan Alda and Mike Farrell are. Now I can't watch it anymore.
Liberal wackadoodles must just cringe and whine into their tofu at the way Jack does business! Such blatant disregard for the poor terrorists' feelings...I mean really... :)

I have just discovered 24 this year. I am watching season one on DVD while I exercise. It's my rule, I must workout while watching.........I stayed on my elliptical for hours and burned off 3000 calories today. I watched four episodes. It is much better to watch on DVD with no interuptions. I will be swimsuit ready by summer. ;)

I'm also watching Season 1 and Season 5 at the same time, and it seems that almost everyone from Season 1 is gone or has been killed off.

So far I think only Tony, Jack, and Kim are still alive although Tony is out of commission for right now (although we'll see him later) and Kim will be back as well this season.

No, Michelle was the one who got killed. Poor Tony just got blown up a bit. He is in the CTU clinic which is about the most dangerous place on Earth. Seems like everyone who goes down there doesn't come back but Tony will buck that trend.

Well, most of it. I've haven't seen every episode, especially season three, but I've seen enough. For some reason season three wasn't interesting to me.

Well, (blush), I wasn't going to mention Carter, Nixon, or Johnson...or FTM Kennedy (who only dared undertake the 'Cuban Missile Crisis' courtesy of intel from the Brits, btw). Oh, kwap, I forgot Ford, sheesh.
As noted, a suspension of disbelief.
That's ok for a telly programme, of course, probably required. However, when any reasonable person would prefer, repeatedly, to suspend disbelief regarding an actual President -- which event has occurred far too often for my tastes -- I'd say that the Republic is staring at a world of shjt.
FReegards to you!
