Anyone reading anything good?
Not sure if this ended up in the right place, so please move if it's not. Thank you
Your post, it is captivating!
I read 'State of Fear' -- Michael Crichton, on a flight to and from LA last week. I enjoyed the book, and recommend it. Not sure if you're looking for fiction or not.
Business or pleasure ?

Other : StratFor.com Geopolitical Intelligence Reports, and, just finished Robert Jordan's "Knife of Dreams", the 11th book in his Wheel of Time series - think Lord of the Rings, but on steroids - lots more books and lots and lots more characters and fun happenings (like battles against the dark side).
Go to Wikipedia.com and just start typing in random things. You'll be there for hours. After that, go to howstuffworks.com and do the same thing.
A Guide to the End of the World : Everything You Never Wanted to Know.
Looks like light reading. :)
Someone I know is reading State of Fear right now, too. He's been disappointed with the last few Crichtons he's read but seems to be enjoying this one.
A structural study of Western movies. Very good.
The Right Stuff by Thomas Wolfe
Starship Troopers
The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk
Also the Winds of War, War and Remembrance, and Marjorie Morningstar by the same author
I also like the Harry Potter series, + Lord of the Rings
For old classics, I like the Jungle Books (probably read Rikki Tikki Tavi a hundred times to my daughters) and Captains Courageous, both by Rudyard Kipling.
If you've never read the original Dracula, by Bram Stoker, it's a very good read.
For political reading, The Tempting of America, the Political Seduction of the Law, by Robert Borke is great. Also, the Bell Curve is a fascinating book.
I'm not too big on the recent political books by Hannity, Coulter, etc. Nothing wrong with them, I just feel like I'm not really reading anything. Hope this helps.
Egads, I can barely turn this thing on...

I can't get into those endless fantasy series. The last one I read was Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, which is more literary and more of a science fantasy. I prefer this to the Tolkienesque fantasies, and think Wolfe a much finer writer than the popular fantasy writers.
Robinson Crusoe & A History of Israel: From the Rise of Zionism to Our Time (I try to read a fiction and a non-fiction book at the same time). Also dabble in Baseball: A Literary Anthology now and again.
I'm a huge fan of the Mars books. The earlier ones in the series are the best, but all are good reading. Burroughs may seem stodgy to some modern readers but I find his stuff richly imaginative, very enjoyable.
Amen. Damn, that man could write a fight scene.
