We're doing our part to deal with the ratty RATs in our area. My guess is that Lincoln will turn a deaf ear to anyone but Hillary. She's a RAT to the core, but Pryor tries to play both sides of the fence to keep the dumbocrats on the plantation, many who have more conservative values on social issues. He will therefore go to the highest bidder...so to speak. Pass it on.

Now, if we can just get Ann Coulter to the Whole Hog Cafe, she would be the little extra inspiration needed for some who are just not quite motivated enough to get out there and make some noise. Kenny, you're our cutest guy FReeper. How about sending her a personal invitation.

Group lobbies for Alito confirmation

GEORGE JARED
Bulletin Staff Writer

Residents in the Twin Lakes Area may play a role in nominating Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court.

Action Committee spokesman Gabe Allen asked a group of approximately 20 area residents to call Sen. Mark Pryor and Sen. Blanche Lincoln and encourage them to vote to confirm Alito during a meeting at Mountain Home City Hall Friday.

Neither Pryor nor Lincoln has announced how they will vote.

Action Committee is a Little Rock-based political action committee which lobbies for conservative political issues, Allen said.

Mountain Home was the last stop on a 10-day, 36-city tour of the state in which Allen attempted to drum up support for Alito's nomination.

One of the goals of Action Committee is overturning the Supreme Court 1973 decision Roe v. Wade, according to Action Committee President Jerry Cox.

"We're not sure how Alito will vote on Roe v. Wade, but he will not legislate from the bench," Allen said.

State Sen. Shawn Womack (R-Dist. 1) and State Rep. Johnny Key (R-Dist. 81) did not speak at the event, but both were in attendance.

Allen said he thinks Lincoln and Pryor have received hundreds of calls since the tour began.

He said his committee has received indications from Pryor's office that he's leaning toward confirming Alito.

The committee has received no information as to how Lincoln will vote, he said.

Despite the low turnout, Allen said the Mountain Home crowd is one the largest he spoke to on the tour. Before arriving in the city, he spoke in front of approximately 70 people in Harrison.

"The point of the tour was not to speak to large numbers of people," Allen said.

"It was to get our message out through the media."

If Pryor or Lincoln vote to confirm Alito, citizens should be compelled to call them and tell them how much the vote is appreciated, Allen said.

Action Committee is a subdivision of Family Council, a political action committee which deals with education issues within the state.

I have heard that there is a pretty high premium on tech types here...comparatively. I still don't really understand exactly what it is you do (yes, I know you've explained it), but I think it's a safe bet that there aren't too many people around here doing it.

Nothing much shows up in the Baxter Bulletin, at least as far as ads go. Terrible classified section.

Well, there is a paper for Marion County. Can't remember the name of it, but they don't have an online version. Boone County (Harrison) is the next county on the other side of Marion Co. and is about the same distance to the west as Mountain Home is to the east, so their paper would be as likely as ours to have news, etc. for Marion County. Northwest Arkansas Times (Fayetteville) is the biggest in northern Arkansas and is actually the northwest Arkansas version of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

Thank for the ping. What have you been up to? Have you recovered yet from the wild and crazy holidays? Are you going out shopping today?

We are on day 26 of continuous rain going for a record breaking 31 days set in 1953. At work we're rooting for the rain! Yeah! It's raining again today!

Well, shopping today is tempting, just to get my mind off or things. Court did not go well yesterday. Sometimes I have to deal with people who make stupid decisions based on limited information. That's what happened yesterday. As a result, a case that should have been over yesterday is dragging out yet another 3 months. And as usual, the kids pay for it.

Dragged out another 3 months!! OMG. The poor kids. And the kids get caught in between. The court system could definitely be improved. I know the judges mean well, but there is so much red tape and the attorney garbage. They do have to make decisions based on limited info which is sad sometimes.

I was in court only twice and I defended myself both times and won. Once in a small claims court for a landlord-tenant case (my tenant trashed my house and wanted me to give him his security deposit back) and then my divorce. At least in WA, it was fairly easy to learn the court system. Divorce affects about half of all marriages. I am surprised more people don't learn the basics so the attorneys don't take them to the cleaners. Except in rare cases, all those jokes about lawyers are true. Bottom-feeders, etc... I am sure there are many exceptions, all you lawyers out there!

I was on jury duty about 3-4 times, was a juror on about 4 cases, and I do respect the system though...It is the best in the world.

Hang in there, Libby. Those kids need people like you.;)

Well, hopefully, this will give the parents enough extra rope to hang themselves. Their attorney, at the last hour, is pulling stuff out of his butt to delay resolution of the case. But that's his job, so I don't hold that against him. It is the attorney for the kids, who is supposed to be representing their best interests, that really has me upset.

We have two regular ad litums for our kids in this county. One of them is very committed to what she does and spends a lot of time getting to know the kids and spending time with them in their environment. She is right on top of things that are going on in her cases. She is a full time attorney ad litum. The other, which happens to be the ad litum in this case, is in private practice and acts as ad litum for kids on the side. She has almost no contact with the kids except for a few minutes prior to the hearings. She is not familiar with a lot of the history in most of these cases and she has no day in and day out interaction with the kids, the parents, the foster parents, the schools, the therapists, etc. Then she goes in and makes recommendations that totally throws the case off track...in the WRONG direction. Just really p*sses me off. Our attorney spent the better part of 2 hours diffusing me yesterday...and that was after I took a Xanax.

When I am making my recommendations to the court, I give a lot of weight to others' opinions in a case when I feel they either have more knowledge of the history, or the kids, or that they are more qualified in a specific area, for whatever reason. I have no problem with deferring to the judgement of someone else if they are able to make a reasonable case for their position. But in this case, the two people (not counting the parents' attorney) who know the least about the case are the ones that had the greatest influence on yesterday's outcome, and that was just not a good decision.
