"it's 6:00 AM on the 14th right now & I'm on the A.R.F. up at camp N*******. Just said hello to sgt. K******- this is where he ended up being put. It's kind of alot like the U.P. There are random machinery parts lying around all over, it's oddly militant by B******* standards, and the people here are kind of socially deprived. For many soldiers this is the very last stop before Iraq. In fact, if it weren't so foggy (yes, foggy in the frickin' desert) I would be able to see the border plainly from the high ground here. I had once thought some of this information might be what they call "secfor" or sensitive, until i saw a t-shirt in the PX with the exact names and locations of all the coalition bases in Kuwait. Well, i guess it can't be too classified then.
The Iraqi town of Safwan is directly across the border. Last time I was here an alert went out that if you hear gunfire, don't freak out, there's a wedding going on across the border. This also happens to be the place recognized as the hottest in the Arab world, if not anywhere. Safwan, specifically, is supposedly the exact spot where God opened the earth and threw satan into hell... though i don't remember reading that in the bible.
I just realized that it's now been over one month since i set "boots on ground" here. That comes with a few cool things, e.g., i get to wear the red arrow on my right shoulder now, and all the sweet bonuses i get for being in a "combat zone" go into effect retroactively. Rumor has it that since B******* is becoming a permanent base all of kuwait will officially become a "green zone" and we'll lose the pay in february, but i doubt it. There will be a LOT of disgruntled joes if that happens. I've gotta go, we're due back at base soon. I miss everybody back home alot, as always thinking about you all. see you later- Evan"
Been so busy; no time to freep!
I'll be around more when things settle down.
Take care all y'all!!
He's been gone for a month? Wow. He sounds really good. Thanks for sharing, Mozie.
Hi Mozie - another interesting email from Ev - thank you. From what he says, does this mean he is still in Kuwait or can't you say? Interesting about Safwan - I didn't know that but then we Catholics aren't real Bible knowledgeable.
Did you get SNOW Mozie? We got 4-5 inches of heavy wet stuff - on the trees, everywhere - it is a virtual winter wonderland. You'd love it!
