Not all of us live in San Francisco or Marin County or Watts.
A goodly proportion (forget the numbers) of legal hispanic immigrants also support getting control of the borders. They went through the hoops and are generally family-oriented and law abiding. I too would resent the interlopers.
In general, the number of murders - usually gang related - in Los Angeles County outnumbers the military deaths in Iraq in any given period. Frankly, the obvious quality of our brave volunteer heroes versus the murdering scum makes these type of statistics meaningless.
Would imagine most people dislike the easy probation and protracted, often media led, appeals that lead up to these executions. This one has been 24 years. The victims didn't have an opportunity to "write childrens books".
I'm glad you are feeling better. I didn't listen to Murtha, figured just more of the same-old, same-old.
The lesson that William's death would send to the gangs, that no matter when you committed the murder, nor how many books you write, nor how much time passes YOU WILL PAY THE PENALTY, is far more important than any sort of extenuating circumstances.
Williams may be sorry, but he's only sorry he's having to die.
We're going to do the Hawaii gift for their 51st anniversary. We thought about it too late for this year.
We're still trying to decide what to do for the 50th. I think it will be going out to dinner later in January with their children and spouses; plus my parents' brothers and sisters and their spouses.
After my experience on the cruise with the movement on the ship, I don't think we'll ever get my mom on a cruise. That is OK, we can send them to an island in Hawaii and they can still have fun. :)
Thanks for your comments about writing books and how that should get him out of being put to death for killing people. I was appalled when I heard that statement.
Dolly, my heart goes out to you at this time, the loss of Oliver. Please take care.
So I'm assuming the zap with the stun gun was done for medicinal purposes? Ouch.
When I was 20, I left school for the weekend and flew from Boston to Albany, NY and picked up my 2 sisters and my father's jeep - a soft side jeep if you know what I mean - with the plastic windows.
We drove to Fourth Lake in the Adirondecks and closed up my grandmother's camp and then were to deliver things she didn't wish to leave over the winter to her home in upstate NY. We had just left the Old Forge area and out of nowhere, two guys got behind us in a car and started shooting a gun at us!! We had never seen them before and I hadn't accidentally cut them off in traffic or anything; in those days -- there was virtually NO traffic in that area at that time of year.
I drove like a maniac with my two sisters crying; bullets were flying and we were going so fast I was sure we'd crash. Thankfully, I remembered where the State Police station was and drove there. But to get there, we had to take a few streets that had stoplights. At one stoplight, with cars in front of us, one of the guys got out of the car and shot into the jeep as I was watching in my mirror and moving out of the lane and onto a middle divider green and driving onto the grass. The shot pierced the soft side of the jeep but there was so much stuff in back and I'd had my sisters get on the floor and no one was hit.
Once I pulled into the State Police station, they drove off. We never got a license plate but had a description of the car which the cops later found abandoned and had been stolen. It was one of those inexplicable situations that one finds oneself in with no idea how or why it was all happening.
No sorry - never bought from Harry and Davids
Harry and David is a great company!
Great links, Molly, thank you!
That sounds like progress.
Good morning.
I have lots of work to do today plus babysitting, so I had better get my second cup of coffee.
I happened to catch the Tookie Williams news conference and they had the reporters who had witnessed the execution talking. Adam Houseley was there fro Fox, but for MSNBC it was RITA COSBY. The funny thing was that every time Rita started to talk, Fox would cut away. HA!
Whata harrowing experience! That would have haunted my sleep for years to come.
Good morning. Doesn't it seem like things are looking up in Iraq?
