Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Heh...I'd heard that all the squirrels were real. How does one train a squirrel to act?

I fergit, have you seen it yet?
To: RosieCotton
If someone trained ~these~ squirrels, they're in the wrong business. I think they could've used real ones in a couple of shots, but not the whole scene.

Hey there... I've run across something really useful.
I've been setting up the upstairs and downstairs computer for automated backups to one of those external USB drives... and I've run across a really nifty tool. Maybe I'm the last one to find it, and everybody already uses it, but it is called "SyncBack" and it is freeware from here: http://www.2brightsparks.com
There's a for-sale version with more bells and whistles, but the freeware version is pretty good already. It does scheduling, syncronization, backups over FTP, email notifications, all sorts of filtering and granularity.
It's a really competent backup sync system, especially for freeware. The full version is only $25 for five computers... I think I might get that.
Anyway... something to look at.

Ah! Well - enjoy it! I did, though again, it's not on the same grand scale of the LOTR movies.
Closer to the book, though. And I thought the kids did a very good job of acting. Wish there were movies like it when I was a kid...I would have been blown away by it then. At this point, I was noticing CGI and such at some points. Betcha Luke will love it!
To: Corin Stormhands
I'm thinking about seeing it again before it leaves the theatres. That and King Kong.

I still need to see
King Kong, and
The Producers and I want to see
End of the Spear.
In other news...
After sleeping in her chair at the dinner table for 45 minutes, Nana wakes up and announces "I'm sleepy." Really? Wouldn't have noticed.
I swear I am not making this up. I look down from the choir loft this morning, and there's a pink muppet sitting about four rows back. It was a bit startling.
At first I thought someone must be making a kid's announcement, but no. Later I realized the lady brought the muppet for children's church during second service. But she sat the thing up in the seat, just like it was listening to the sermon.
Later...
"24" tonight. I won't post spoilers for the left coast.

Do you know what the deal is with 24 tonight? Is it four hours tonight and four hours tomorrow? The same four hours? Two hours tonight and two more tomorrow?

Isn't that the face of one of orcs who invaded Osgiliath?

No room to take the plants with you if you move?
Car is mostly clean...well, clean enough. I wanted to hose down the undercarriage since they put salt on the road last week. It was a pain in the butt trying to wash it in that wind. :)

Nevermind... found it. Looks like it's two hours tonight and two more tomorrow.
My Yahoo cable listing are all messed up. Viewing by time it shows "Cops" on the fox station at 8pm, and viewing by channel it shows "24" on at 8pm.

Didn't the squirrels eat the good nuts, though?
At least they were good for something!

Since it's supposed to get cold(er) this week, I guess I'd better collect the chicken parts from the freezer and get a stock made.

No room to take the plants with you if you move? There's only so much room in the van...and I don't think they'd do too well strapped to the roof...
I at least started the dishwasher. I guess that's better than nothing, as cleaning goes...
To: RosieCotton
Guess you could always give them to Mr. Beepy *ducks behind the sofa*
