Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Someday I'd love to buy or build a realllly tall cat tree. Tam would love something like that. Halvah would probably just use the lowest sisal portion and sleep at the base, but that's fun too, I guess - in her world.

I'd love to have one of those big cat trees... but they're too expensive for what's in them.

Have you ever ordered actual plants through the mail, as opposed to seeds? Just wondering how that works.
To: HairOfTheDog
Seems like it *should* be pretty easy to build one...buy scrap carpet to cover it and some of that rope for the vertical bits.
I dunno any carpentry, but I've always wondered if I could pull one of those off.

Miss Cat doesn't climb (at least I've never seen her climb), she always jumps when she's going up.
Hmmmm....stevia seeds. Think I'll try that.

Which part of the plant gets uses for sweetener? That is what stevia is for, right?
To: RosieCotton
Yes, I've done that before. They're usually in plastic pots with the pots in a plastic bag....holes in the shipping box.
Burpee's doesn't sell bay laurel. I think I'll check out that herb site Li'lFreeper was talking about.

Yeah, that's what it's for.
I believe it's the leaves....guess I'll find out. :)

I'm just thinking it'd be a good way to get tomatoes, if I did that. Save the hassle of starting 'em.
To: Overtaxed
All the plants I got at the farmer's market did well, except the tomatoes. Leaves me wondering if it was me or the plants. One cherry tomato plant did mostly OK, but the in-ground tomatoes died horribly.
To: RosieCotton
I always like to see the seedlings push up through the soil.

I think the trick on the really tall ones is getting it stable enough to not fall over. Has to have a pretty big heavy base, or better yet, be bolted to the wall. :~\

If it was backed into a corner it might be OK...but you're right, a heavy base would be needed.
Usually when these guys knock stuff over it's 'cause they hit it at a running jump. That's where the corner would help.
To: RosieCotton
Hmmmm.....wonder if the squirrels would like heirloom tomatoes....

Howdy...
I'd like one of those things for Josie... and yeah, I think it would need to be attached to the wall.

Are you going to let Burpee "custom grow" your tomatoes?

I watched "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" last night to determine if Luke could see it (I think so).
But I thought about you during the squirrel scene.

You mean order plants?
Possibly. Depends on where I'm gonna be in a few months' time. Lotta idea juggling going on right now.
I also rather like that one package that includes eggplants, various tomato varieties, and several different types of peppers, too. Neat idea...though it could produce a LOT of 'maters. Four plants. Guess that's what freezers are for, but...
To: Overtaxed
Yep, Wonka trained squirrels to open nuts for his candy. They reject the bad ones and send 'em down the garbage chute.
The spoiled rich girl wants a squirrel and tries to get one. They determine she's a bad nut and send her away (and later her dad).
