The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Are you frickin' kiddin' me?!

They have the unmitigated ~gall~ to come to your website and insult your wedding?!

Oh lordy, I'm hacked off.

Sometimes I wish I had the computer know-how to make their lives MOST unpleasant....

Well... in the big picture I suppose there's wisdom merely in being pretty careful about what gets posted on the Internet. Sometimes the littlest thing could give away a location or address. I dunno.

If the world were full of decent people we wouldn't need locks for our doors.

We're pretty careful about most of that kind of thing. These people are pests who think making fun of FReepers is a worthwhile hobby. :~\

Nice chatting with you! That was fun. Thanks for letting me think out loud for a good portion of that...

And now I have dark chocolate and some good tunes going. The world is my oyster tonight!

That really is pretty pathetic... can you imagine being in that kind of head space? I really can't fathom it.

Sure there's some gasbags around... but I wouldn't ever have the inclination to hound them out and around the rest of the internet.

I know whereof you speak. Haven't been there for weeks and have no desire to.

They think they're superior because they can make fun of FR. But how sad are ~their~ lives if that's what fulfills them?

You're wise to be cautious in access to what you post.

But those people are losers and only worth the time it takes to avoid them.

Don't hesitate to call me if you need to! I'm FReepmailing various and sundry info.

Tomorrow! Right here! <morphing into Jack Lord> Be there! Aloha!

<laughing>Did you ever see Hawaii 5-0?

I belonged to their forum for awhile... I like to watch people as much as anyone. They used to quote me favorably when I took on nutty posters, and invited me to join. I later got banned.

I used to think there was a distinction between pointing out the fallacy and nuttiness of certain crazy ideas, and merely laughing and pointing at people. They used to do more of the former, and now mostly do the latter. Over time, I've decided it's all rather mean spirited. They're ticked off because they got banned from here, or their ideas were unpopular, and now they sit on the outside, pressing their faces on the glass, and, ridiculously enough, thinking they are the ones that are better off. They are what they mock.

I wish I was up to my old form as a ranter to take on thugs like that as they should be.

One of the qualities of the Internet is that this type feels enabled to act in the virtual world in a way that would not be possible in the physical world!

True enough - in real life, it'd be fightin' words. It's easy to be a bully on the internet. What they don't realize is that it's also easy, and a lot more rewarding, to be nice on the internet.

I like to fight things out on issues as much as anyone. And we all know it can get heated! But the best time, by far, is the time we've spent here, making such terrific friends.

Hi LCS :~D

Have you ever seen the movie The Dish? It's about the technicians at a satellite location in a sheep paddock in Australia, that was responsible for broadcasting the images of the walk on the Moon in July, 1969. At one point in the movie, the people of the town are making plans to entertain a group of American diplomats, and the local rock band has been booked to play the dance. The lady arranging everything asks them to play the National Anthem of the US, and they say "Sure". When the event begins, and the band lights up, they start playing the Hawaii 5-0 theme song! It is hilarious!
