The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Back when I was a kid and we colored eggs for Easter, we had a tradition of mixing all the colors together for the last egg... it usually came out the same color as that emu egg.

Well then?

Is your dad getting a hydraulic lift for his next birthday? ;-)

You could get one while you're up there...just have to use the same stratagem as we'd discussed for coconuts.

Heh... Same experience when I looked at the paint thinner can I used when I was oil painting. The sum total of all the colors I had used was just about that.

"Emus are also powerful swimmers capable of crossing rivers— something they need to do from time to time as part of their wandering. Generally though, emus prefer to play in water rather than cross it: if a stream or dam is available, they take full advantage of it on hot days, sometimes rolling on their backs and kicking their legs in the air."

True. But it would be so much more exciting if she could see the emus that it came from!

Um...

1) They didn't win, and

2) They're out, but there's one more round of games

Well... it's not ~that~ tall. :-)

It really, really drives nice though. Very smooth and quiet. Lotsa power. Feels solidly on the road... very much in control. Everything is right where you'd look for it.

I like it. :-)

I'd like to go back later this year so Becky can visit. She's been begging to meet Hair and the horses for ages. All depends on $$ though.

Skins... The seahawks won. Now they play the winner of the Denver/New England game still underway, for the NFC championship. Winner of that game goes to the superbowl.

Booting up Google Earth...

I use it on one of the lab PCs at work. On a commercial cable, and does not to through the firewall, so no tracking or stats.

I gasped the first time I fired it up. Last night, I "visited" Fort Campbell, KY. I saw my old barracks from Basic, still there. Also the Navy installion within the Army post, where they store nukes in bunkers in a densely-forrested area on the north side of the post. Also quick flyovers of Baghdad and North Korea.
