Its been almost 13 years since its release but this is one of those movies that no matter how often it is on, I still will stop and watch it. AMC has been showing it a lot the past few weeks and it was on again last night so, as is the usual practice, stopped and watched a good portion of it. As with all my lame reviews, here is a chance for Freepers to make comments, share memories, etc. of the movie.
My comments:
1. Why Laura Dern to play the female lead? If Denise Richards can play a scientist in a Bond movie, why couldnt they pick a real babe to play the role of a paleobotanist?
2. Jeff Goldblums character is perfect for him. My wife loves it when he plays the brainy, somewhat edgy character. His must go faster, must go faster in Jurassic Park is repeated by his character in Independence Day.
3. In that same scene, where the T-Rex is seen in the side mirror of the jeep and the Objects are closer than they appear is seen in the mirror, that same scene is duplicated in Toy Story.
4. Dinosaurs are reptiles and reptiles are the only creatures that continue to grow its entire life, which, during the time of the dinosaurs, would explain their huge size (early biblical records show people living 800 years, etc. Let an alligator grow for 800 years and think of what you might get). With that said, they dont explain the quick growth of the dinosaurs. Also, wouldnt have someone discovered this place early? Hard to hide huge herds of dinosaurs to planes flying overhead.
5. Seinfields Newman creeps me out in this movie. Pudgy little fingers all over the keyboard and then the thought of that raptor having a huge meal at the expense of Newmans gut
.
6. Why didnt Richard Attenborough use some of his tunnel digging experience he picked up on The Great Escape to get away from the dinosaurs?
Are we really discussing Dino Do Do?
You got something better?
I saw Ron White this weekend - the Blue Collar Comedy Dude.
He was GREAT!
Think he poo-poo's big do-do like dinos?
He has a dog named Sluggo that probably puts dino's do do to shame.
Well, it looks like no one else is out here to play so I'm going to head to the house. Safe travels if you are out this week. Talk to you tomorrow.
LA tomorrow.
Miss me!
I wish you people would get a better line than "lighten up Francis." I like Bill Murray movies but that one was stoooopid.
Okey dokey.
You appear to be an idiot with no sense of humor who takes themself way too seriously and attempts to impose their point of view on everyone else without any concept of self restraint.
There. is that better?
Goodness. Someone with the handle of "tuffydoodle" trying to lecture others about "stoopid." The irony is overwhelming.
"Okey dokey."
You must be a Harvard grad. I'm overwhelmed by your wittiness.
"You appear to be an idiot"
"no sense of humor"
"attempts to impose their point of view on everyone else"
"without any concept of self restraint."
"Someone with the handle of "tuffydoodle" trying to lecture others about "stoopid"
So's your mother, Pisspot.
Good do-do feces rant.
Well said. Bravo. I'm sure you're proud of that post.
I can tell you're fully into the spirit of open and intelligent debate.
Ironically I'm listening to the scene in Field of Dreams on AMC right now (literally) where they call each other names, like "horses ass" and "Nazi cow." Not that those epithets would have any relevance to these discussion.
And a Merry Christmas to you, by the way.
All quotes are from you:
"You appear to be an idiot"
"no sense of humor"
"attempts to impose their point of view on everyone else"
"without any concept of self restraint."
"Someone with the handle of "tuffydoodle" trying to lecture others about "stoopid"
"where they call each other names, like "horses ass" and "Nazi cow." Not that those epithets would have any relevance to these discussion."
And then we have these posts:
"I can tell you're fully into the spirit of open and intelligent debate."
"And a Merry Christmas to you, by the way."
You are either 12 years old or schizophrenic. Or both.
Stealth dinos.
Good Lord, this started with a teasing post about a fricking dinosaur movie. There was no animous and no hate in any of my posts. If you can't tell that then you really need to up your medication.
You're dangerous.
I do, and it wasn't a sled, lol.
Although.... ;^> (evil grin)
I really enjoyed the HBO movie RKO 281 for this and other insights into what the story was REALLY about. And, all in all, Welles didn't come off as the "good guy" and Hearst didn't come off as the "bad guy." And I think that was the best part Melanie Griffith has ever done.
That's what film making should be about. Conveying truths that enlighten. That movie did a fine job of completing the task started nearly 60 years earlier.
