Only the hum of equipment fans disturbs the silence in the room, dimly lit by the ghostly bluish glow of computer screens.
A figure comes down the hall, preceded by his shadow cast from a light from somewhere far beyond the end of the hall. He sits down at the desk sighing, it has been a long day at the computers, and starts typing.
"Modem, do your thing."
Modem's hard drive spins up, chuckles to itself briefly, then the distinctive tones of a 28.8kbps modem connection are heard.
The connection is tested, and pronounced live. A prepared warning is issued -- will it be ten minutes? More? Or less? Nobody knows. But the operation is now underway.
It's Moving Day.

Most of the work had been done in advance: scouting out the possible destinations for the New Home, accepting and reviewing suggestions from others, and preparing the initial paperwork for the coming month's residence. But there is more to be done. The New Home must be flawlessly stitched into the doubly-linked list of Undead Thread homes reaching back at least to UTII. And this means that the destination of the New Home must be accurately calibrated.
Keyclicks mix furiously with mouseclicks as the preparation continues and the final coordinates determined and entered...
there...
There...
THERE!
Now the final sequence begins. Windows open and close as various items of data are shuffled into each one; each window with a different role to play.
Then... is it ready? One last check through the list, one last check on the targeting. Yes, it is ready.
The mouse starts ticking off the precise, ordered sequences to move the Undead Thread to its new home.
