Is Drudge "over"?
October 31, 2005 | scarchin

Question for chat: This(Alito) is another of many recent examples where Drudge is waaay behind on current and important news. I'm about to take him off my Bookmarks. Any one else noticing this?

Good thing about Drudge is that he still gets the occasional inside scoop. I don't have it as my home page anymore, but I check him out every so often. FR is my main place to be though.

Ten million hits a day?

If he's done, I'd like to have some of that action.

I don't visit Drudge.

As I said earlier. He had two earthshaking headlines. The blue dress and the yellow busses.

Everything else is fluff.

I find Drudge useful for a variety of issues.
His links to other sites is better then anyone else, but I use Newsmax to get to the "meat" of important world and political news.

"I gave up on him long ago when the popups started."

The last couple of weeks, I haven't gotten a single popup over there. No browser change, either. Maybe Drudge finally saw that the popups were more of a nuisance than an income generator.

Drudge is a messy site with too much spyware and popups for my taste.

Bingo! Run a spyware scan sometime after you have visited his site......bad news!

Try the free microsoft antispyware beta 1. Bet you will avoid his site in the future.....

Go there less and less. Fewer and slower updates. Slower action started before hurricanes. I too wondered what happened to his site. I guess it is hard to run with all that ham on his back.

I wonder how much the auto-refresh helps those numbers?

I noticed that a lot of his late breaking links he puts up just bounces you right back to his site, counting as another hit. At first I thought he just linked wrong, then I caught on to what he was up to.

Agree about the spyware, but I still like his site. I'm certain that I picked up the Winfixer malware from his site. This Winfixer malware installs itself under WINLOGON and randomly names its DLL, so it can't be defeated by SZymantec, McAfee, Trend Micro et all. I still can't put my laptop on standby until I take the time to work with a pro to manaully remove these wicked DLL's. Nonetheless, I'll still visit Drudge with Firefox, since his material is the basis for almost all of the AM radio talkers.

I have never bookmarked Drudge; he is just an internet version of tabloid journalism.

And, like tabloid journalism...a waste of time.

What popups? ;-)

As for Drudge: Yes, I've noticed he's been slipping a bit recently... I think the prep for his radio program may be taking too many hours away from 'real' news.

The Drudge Report is sensationalist and has way too much entertainment news that I don't think of as news at all.

FR is my main place to be though. Ditto. Drudge had a good thing and let the ad crap blow it. Anything of note on Drudge is noted here, thanks to you Drudge monitors. FR is so ahead of the curve.

Drudge has lost his ability to scoop the MSM and seems himself to have become part of the media/leftist complex. I read that this could be in part due to his decision to turn over the day to day operation and maintenance of his web site to hirelings, while he has become increasingly focused on other interests. Also, he refuses to carry Mark Steyn, who is arguably the best conservative journalist writing today but persists in listing intellectual lightweight clymers like Huffington. Go figure.
