You "zapped the laptops's USB ports"? Izzat "zapped" as in blew away the drivers, or "zapped" as in destroyed via electrical overload?

Zapped as in static discharge. I sat down at my desk, reached for the mouse, got zapped when I touched it... and the mouse quite functioning. If I removed and reinstalled it, the machine recognized that *something* was there, but that was it.

But I tried a thumb drive at home, and it sort of recognized it, but not completely. Two other USB mice also didn't function.

I have had more laptop trouble in the past two or three years... wonder what IT is going to say?
