Back in the 80s we were installing a networked system in the home offices of a group radio station owner. I over heard one of the secretaries say that the Lady Office Manager's birthday was the next Tuesday. So I wrote a little program that played happy birthday when she turned her computer on .. on her birthday. It then erased itself and the copy of Happy Birthday.
She told other people what her computer had done "It Played Happy birthday on my birthday!!!".. but no one believed her.
On another gals computer at a different radio station I had her computer come up on a Monday morning and say, " Please be gentle with me today. I went out Saturday night and met this real hunk of a Main Frame. He could not leave me alone... I havn't had any sleep at all. He was so fantastic!!! I'm exhausted!!! Please take it easy on me today"
That one also erased itself and left no traces. The secretaries boss called me.. wanting to know how that could happen. I professed complete ignorance.. as in "Are you sure she is not pulling your leg? Did you hear or see the computer do it? Will it do it when you turn it on?" and things like that.

"This is from me to those that have not written yet, please write, use it,
tell about your family, your hobbies, how the weather is, what are you planning for the weekend.
Tell a funny thing that happened, send a joke anything. Tell about your pets and kids.
We miss home and it means a lot to hear from everyone."
From a US Marine's e-mail
Will You help keep the Candle Lit for our service men and women?
Can you spare a few moments today to either
e-mail them or learn about sending packages to them?
Many of them are away from home for the 1st time.
PLEASE Click on the graphic and help cheer them up.
You will stay right where you are on this thread while you write them.

Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Examiners Association
Commercial fishing is one of our nations most hazardous industries.
The Coast Guard is committed to increasing safety in the fishing industry.
The main objective is to increase compliance
with the minimum safety requirements found in
Title 46 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 28
Requirements for Commercial Fishing Industry Vessels.
"...Between 1999 and 2003, for the US, a total of 528 uninspected commercial fishing vessel
were lost and 291 fishermen died.
These figures clearly demonstrate that the death rate for the uninspected commercial fishing vessel industry is unacceptable in comparison to other segments of the maritime industry and the American workforce in general, the analysis stated.
Furthermore, data compiled from voluntary dockside examinations show conclusively that increased survival rates of both fishermen and vessels are directly proportional to the proper equipping and maintenance of safety gear on vessels, particularly when the crew has been properly trained to use these systems effectively in emergency response scenarios.
Yet the Coast Guard estimates that only six percent of the approximately 90,000 uninspected commercial fishing vessels in the US today have had the voluntary dockside examination..."
