Hi Paul,

The picture is mount Timpanogos, 12,000 ft high, taken from the west side of the town of Pleasant Grove, Utah. To the right side is Orem, and to the right of Orem is Provo, a college town home to Brighan Young University. Salt Lake City is thirty miles to the left (north).

Timp is along the Wasatch front, a range of mountain stretching from 50 miles north of Salt lake city to about 100 miles south. Timp is at the junction of the Wasatch front and the High Uintas, the only east-west mountain range in North America. This has pushed it up a little higher than the surrounding mountains.

The High Uintas cover about 10,000 square miles in northern Utah, southern Wyoming, and eastern Colorado. They are our summer playground.
