I think he likes the helpless and vulnerable part But he has trouble..not trouble...issues showing it freely.

Actually I think I've witnessed the behavior.

No, if I did, the season would be winding down and become extremely stagnant during about mid November.
But I have three roses.
And all three are trying to continue growing.
Though one is trying to REALLY grow.
We've already had our first frost.

I have roses right in front of my house that blossom year round, even right after a snow fall. I just have to keep pruning the bushes. Is that not a good thing? I kind of admired my pretty pink roses that never seem to stop blooming!! LOL

I've run across people of both sexes that actively seek or simulate such situations.

Been half tempted to "Go the distance" and do a complete construct 'dress rehersal' of such an event.
Vehicle drives up, dark hood over the head, trundled off to unknown territory, and then have them fill out a question and answer form in a completely bare monotone room.
(Torturous!)

Might 'cure' some people of the idea.
;-)

That is really interesting. Thanks for the insight. I guess they like to be dominated. Hmmm...

It's not normal for roses to continue growing throughout winter.
Such roses are 'rogue' by definition.
If they establish themselves well with healthy roots and thick canes, they are very pleasant roses to have.
Pruning in winter isn't good, but if it hasn't harmed the rose..
Most roses wouldn't be able to handle that.

My one rose was supposed to be a Blue Girl.
It went rogue, and is a mild lavendar pink.
Grows trhoughout winter, and dies back in spring.
I have NO idea why.
It goes dormant in spring and then comes back at the end of May or beginning of June.

Interesting...I guess it's not weird unless it is obsessive. But I think you hit it on the head, Esme. That makes sense.

It happens.
For some, it is due to the 'boredom' of 'always' being the one to initiate things.

The "Hey, why do I have to be the bad guy?" effect.

I am convinced that you don't 'cure' people.
No matter what , they have to 'cure' themselves.

Sounds like roses have a mind of their own. Mine are Perkins & .... They are supposed to be fence roses. (hey, you can tell I don't have the rose vocabulary. LOL) Glad you are the expert!

I figure that if it's obsessive, it's likely due to psyche trauma at some point.

But yes, makes sense ot me as well.
Of course, 'all possible' combinations of 'variables' could all exist in there on one level or another as a 'reason'.
*shrugs*

Can you see why I don't want to go into psychiatry?
;-)

That makes sense as well. Thanks for the "expert" opinion. You are, by definition, the subject matter expert. ;)

True.

But in my postulated case, they get scared into curing themselves.
*unless they LIKE being scared to death..*

Of course, it's so obvious.

Not expert on them, just observational experience.
Never had 'tree' roses, so I don't know anything about them.
Climbing roses tend to be more forgiving.
(They're one step away from wild roses.)

Hybrid tea roses and floribundas tend to be less weather forgiving.
BUT.. mine is supposed to be a hybrid tea rose.

So I'm scratching my head wondering just what happened with it that it went rogue.
