Before the Border Collie we had a Pembroke. He kept our CHILDREN in the unfenced yard <|;>)
He was a bonehead, though, when it came to getting lost in the neighborhood. Whenever he disappeared we sent our Tabby (they slept together) out to get him - within an hour the cat would appear, smug as all get-out, with the dog in tow.
We also had an experience with a child who unlocked a door and followed the CAT out in diapers in dead-of-winter. We put an adult-height deadbolt lock on the door and got the Corgi. When he was "watching" the kids he stayed close, but when out alone he wandered.

My wife won't let me out of her sight if I have one or both of our two girls with me. One full grown Newfoundland dog plus one six month old Newfoundland pup attracts coeds like there's no tomorrow. The sweet and gentle and intelligent look in those eyes and the HUGE and cuddly bodies...well....no guy with a dog like that could be a serial killer or other type of creep. I have had upwards of twenty five girls clustered about me....all bending over in front of me to squeeze and hug the pups. Life is good. I don't know how to post a pic of a newfie...can anybody help me out?

We have two newfies! One is three and a half and one just turned six months last week. WE just discovered the pup has bilateral Hip Dysplasia and we're scheduling surgery at some point. These are our second and third newfies. Our beloved Landseer NANA, passed away about four years ago and we had to have more. Nana lasted 12.3 years which is something of a newfie record but then we take perhaps better care of our four legged daughters than the two legged...or so the daughter claimed. Now she's married and it's just the four of us. Our breeder in San Antonio Texas, has NINE newfies living in her home. THAT'S LOVE.

That picture is Bella, she was still a pup in that picture, but is two now.
I adore her. I would get more, but she is kinda spoiled, and Im not sure if she could adjust.
Thats too bad about your puppy.. Hope he/she makes out alright! :o)
12 years is a LONG time for a Newfie, I dont think Ive ever heard of one living that long.
