The main thing to remember about buffalo or bison is that they are of a wild heritage. Buying them young and raising them will somewhat tame them but the possibility of them being aggressive is always there. They are better managed in groups. I would suggest no less than three. Females are smaller and usually less aggressive. Build an open shed for shelter and not try stabling them in a closed area. These animals are large and are not usually managed well in confined spaces. Because of their size and weight a five or six strand fence with fewer spaces between posts is also suggested. If you wish to have other livestock such as horses or mules it is advisable to keep them separate to avoid injuries. Other than that they are beautiful to look at and should be a joy to have around.
