The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's nasty here today too. We are in the forties with a light, stinging rain. The kind of stuff that muds up your windshield when you turn the wipers on.

Well the way I see it, it isn't wasting water because it just goes back into the ground.

Well here's a smile for yall. I asked momma why she wanted knee surgery because she didn't seem like she was in that much discomfort. She told me she might as well get it done while she has insurance because if she waits until she needs it she might not be able to afford it:').

Well gosh darn it that is funny. Mom is a character. She bought some glucosamine and Mac is making her take it. Maybe that will help her and she won't need it.

It looks like she might wait for me - I just called home and she's not looking like she plans on foaling in the near future. I have to admit, I'd rather she foaled this afternoon without me, right now the sun's out and it's a gorgeous day, even if it is cold. It will be bitter again tonight.

frozen hoses are impossible to deal with although the horses probably appreciate the warm water you carry out.

I once lived in Michigan for a few years. The first winter that I was there I struggled with frozen hoses the whole dang winter. Every time I watered up I would drain the hose so that it would not be frozen the next time I needed it. Draining a stiff water hose in sub-zero weather ain't fun.

The next winter I was prepared. I bought two 100 gallon Rubbermaid water troughs and installed a 1500 watt electric heater in each. After the first snows hit I just shoveled snow in the troughs all winter and didn't have to fool around with the stinking hose but a couple of times.

Now that I'm back in Dixie that's just a fading memory.

:) Boy do I agree on the hoses and walking the water out. We have heaters in the troughs by the barn but those out further (four of them) are too far away from electricity. A real pain, breaking ice and/or filling them in freezing temps. One of these days, maybe I'll have power out to them or so few horses I won't need them (I can hope)

Becky, too cute. :) Too bad I didnt get a shot of Bruce, my precious kitty. We had him nuetered the other day so he has to stay in a cage. You ever see those pictures where they're stuck to the sides of the cage with all 4 claws? "Get me out of here. Get me out of here!!!"

Spawn of Satan I tell you. What I wouldn't have given for a shot of that.

It ain't been cold enough down here this winter to even have ice. There's only been a couple of days so far when the water was iced over and that was just a thin layer.

Yesterday was about 65 degF and I didn't ride because I was waiting on a stinking phone call that never came in. (some of the places I ride are down in little valley's and my cell phone loses service)

Now today it's rainy and 43 degF but tomorrow is supposed to be clear and cool so I'll probably straddle that gray horse tomorrow afternoon.

Well, it's buckets from the house this morning... And I'm about to start water boiling for a hot mash... they love that when it's cold :~D

Hair, you just do that when it's cold?! lol. I do that every morning and every night. Warm from the tap. Has to be baby temp, you know. Not too hot, not too cold. Nothing's too good for my little angels. ;) You should hear me trying to explain that to someone else if (God forbid) they have to feed them. They think I am nuts! No argument there. ;)

Uh huh. It's not like we are talking about a scooter here. Yall, my Mom is worried that those republicans are going to bankrupt medicare. I tell her that it was bankrupted before GB came to office but... Anyway, she's planning for her old age. She bought a handicap access home. She has all kinds of equipment inside that she doesn't need (shower chair, raised commode etc) What else. Oh yeah a van with a lift and she's looking for a scooter. When I left the last time I drove she loaned me a bedpan , just in case:')

Well keep the camera charged. I just had a startle on the way home. A trailer just like mine passed and on first glance it looked like Okie and Sarah Lee. It wasn't them but it's kind of funny that someone could have a trailer and 2 horses almost like mine.
