The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

None of the mesh fly sheets have worked on Tuffy, the culicoides gnats are so tiny that they can get through the mesh. I use a regular solid dress sheet. Also in my research, I have found out that chemical fly sprays don't work on culicoides, you have to use natural sprays. Eqyss Marigold has the highest rating in Horse Journal, I've been stocking up on it all winter.

Sorry, I had to leave for a minute and I'm getting ready to leave again. I use any sheet with shoulder gussets and I buy the cheapest I can find because Tuffy tears them up. When I get back I'll find some of the ones I've bought and post them to you. I like to buy from Jeffersequine.com, they are reasonable with their prices and they ship quickly but they don't always have what I want. StateLineTack is good, too, but their prices aren't as reasonable.

before I start running kids to afterschool activities, here's one sheet that looks interesting, from Jeffers. I don't have this one but I would definitely try it.

Good Morning.

Wow! We had 60 degrees early this morning, then the high wind warning. Temps are dropping fast, and it will be a high of 17 degrees tomorrow! I think I used twice as much gas getting to work, fighting the wind. Wind gusts of almost 50 MPH!

But on a good note. It's Friday!

We have a high wind warning here too and we're going to have rain. Tomorrrow is going to be in the 30s, and Sunday is going to be in the teens.

I like this one, but it doesn't have a belly wrap and the belly is where Grace gets eat up the worst, there and her mane and head of her tail. I'd like one with a neck wrap too so she won't rub her mane out like she did last year.

Hey, check out this other one from Jeffers. It's the WeatherBeeta Airflow Mesh Fly Sheet. It looks more like a solid fabric rather than a mesh and it has the hood and tail gusset that I want. It's not cheap but it's not that bad expensive either. The sheet is $59.35 and the neck rug is 22.45.

All of them. They both moved into furnished apartments. I do have two refigerators though. We keep one in my husband's office for drinks and left overs.

You're right, it doesn't look like mesh. I think I'll buy that entire get-up. Thanks!!

Good morning...

It's in the 20's here and blowing enough (10-20) to make it feel reeeeeealy cold out. But it's not precipitating :~D

Boilin' water for hot mashes this morning.

It's 35 degrees here now, it was 85 yesterday. No rain until tonight. The racetrack vet is coming out this evening on his way home from work, he lives near me. We are going to try some different injections in Tuffy's feet to see if we can get him more comfortable. Right now he's only comfortable (just barely) on bute.
