The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

And voice trained . . .

You know... when we got her, she had only been round penned, and when we tried to lunge her out in that big open field, she was confused and difficult. But she came around, with a little practice.

I was super pleased with her... As I usually am with her. She hasn't been lunged or worked with since last fall.

Hahaha. I do the same thing, no worries. Oh I assure you that if we got into a taped voice contest, I'd win for wierdness. :-) My voice is low to mid range and ... odd...

Hello all, thanks for the ping. Dropping in on an irregular basis. I am looking for a new horse. Had an adventure with a horse trader in Del Rio. More later, have a great weekend all.

Watching the video I was impressed with how well she went. Even in the pictures, while bay has his head up and going, she's just going around like its nothing.

I streamed it - we have DSL here and it's pretty fast. Took a minute to get started, but once it loaded up it wasn't jerky at all.

She has a lot lower natural headcarriage. If fact, when her head comes up, she's usually being turdy ;~D

Great. Thanks :~D

I'm hoping Becky can play it... I don't think she's been able to play any of the videos yet.

I like her head carriage - the only thing I might do is get her weight on her hindquarters a little more so that her withers come up a trifle. But since I started doing combined training I find I like them with more weight on the hindquarters. I used to like the straight back, swinging, nose-out show hunter look, but I'm modifying my opinion!

I'm wrong... I did get one of Bay going...I thought I had, but it didn't copy with the rest of the pics on the disk for some reason.

Bay trotting

All he's doing is trotting in the video, and only once around, but it's ~something~.

He's not good circling... I've been told that lunging is the hardest on his navicular so I don't do it much... but I think you can see what a big trot he has if he could go in a straight line. When he gets into a rhythm he can go all day... it's his endurance trot.

Did you lunge (longe) the pony?

Yup you can tell that he's an a-rab just by that trot and the way that he carries his tail. :-)

Definitely an "Arab trot", I see what you mean about him being able to go all day once he hits his rhythm.

Heh - well her job is to walk nice down trail with my husband, so she looks good for that. She's probably the clumsiest jumper you've ever seen... it's not a pretty sight ;~D

No - I didn't lunge pony. When I do, since this video thing works so well, I'll set some jumps up :~D

I think if you get her weight onto her hind end, you'll see that jump improve about 300 percent.

Gracie jumped like a blind rhinoceros (she actually would knock down one crossrail after another) until we got her on the bit and her front end lifted. Now she's smooth as silk, just a pleasure to ride. I've hunted her all day and not been sore a bit (but she was exhausted poor girl, carrying my weight for 4-6 hours is just no joke.)

His trot looks likes it's really nice to sit to.
