This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Upper 30's daytime or nightime?
Nights. I'm glad I haven't packed up the horse blankets yet.
Where's your Kay-Kay doll?
That's not too bad then - we're generally down in the 20's at night right now.
It's bad for the horses around here to go from hot to cold though. I put mine in the barn in the 40's and blanket when we are in the 30's. Okie seems to adjust but Sarah Lee and a bunch of others sometimes get snotty or congested. She's so full of PCN though....:')
Night
Good night :)
Looks like our weekend is going to be cold too. 17 Sun Morning:(

I'm still going to have the vet check his back today, and I will ask her about saddle fitting. If she knows anything about it, I'll have her check the English saddle:), OK.
Like I've said before, I don't regret trying it at all, and think I could still use it, especially if I put the cashell under it. Maybe when I get him back in shape and he's not so round, I won't have so much trouble with it rolling on him. It's just since trying it, if I have a choice, especially for longer distances, I prefer the western. That's probably nothing more tho, then that I'm so much more use to it.
How's Tweek this morning?
Becky
It was a brand spankin new one for me too Beaker:) When she said that, my first thought was OOOOOOO, that would get a rise out of the saddle club:)
I don't agree with it at all. If you look at the pictures I posted of the competition I went on last year more then half the saddles were English. And I know alot of the people who placed had them, so that's no sore back.
I think it was pure English prejudice on her part, kind of like what I use to have before the saddle club:)

I've gone back thru all the posts and see that I didn't mention something. I really did NOT expect to hear that my saddle fit. I was there last summer when Joe, Stanleys brother checked it for me, when the problem first showed up. Even I thought the saddle sat funny on his back. It did not seem to lie flat on his right side.
But yesterday, when I first got to the shop, Stanley was waiting on another customer, so the girl told me to go ahead and saddle Harley and Stanley would be out there shortly. After I got it on, I was just stunned, because even I thought it looked fine...I couldn't/can't figure out what the deal is.
The ONLY think I can think of is that he's not in as good a shape as he was last year at that time. I'm wondering if (especially since he it's border line fit), if he was more muscled last year and that's made the difference. It may fit him NOW, but when I get him back in shape maybe it won't. I'm going to keep a very sharp eye on him. Do you think that is possible?

The most interesting thing just happened.
I was sitting here reading, and I thought I heard Rocky talking. He talks whenever I go out there to feed, sounds like a tractor trying to start:). Not loud, just a steady OO OO OO OO OO OO:) He does it too sometimes when strange horses show up here. Anyway, I sat here and listened but didn't hear anything more, then a few minutes later I heard him again. I got nervous because my first thought was Harley had gotten out somehow. I couldn't see the barn in the dark, so I walked out there. As soon as I came out of the house he started talking, only a little louder, but since he's so light, I could see Harley standing there (whew). When I got down to the barn Rocky was in his stall standing.
I turned the lights on and he looked fine, but was still talking and he was standing over his feed pan. So I went ahead and feed him even tho it was a bit early, he jumped right on it. LOL, you think he was just extra hungry this morning? Funny boy:)

PC crash at work yesterday.. :( No ping list this morning. I had to steal one of the other guys, least get payroll done, and get on the 'net. Going to go to the H&G show in Cleveland tomorrow. It's a Holland theme with all kinds of tulips.
Tweek seems just great, she's perky and active, but that thing is still big. It doesn't seem to bother her. We wrapped her in a blanket to give her the antibiotics last night, will have to do that again this morning.
Hope you have a helpful appt with the vet...
About saddle fit... saddle fit can change if their weight or condition changes.. smart to keep an eye on it.
Interesting about Rocky talking. He'll do that every morning now :~D
Not nice to get rises out of us, is it precious? :~D
That's what I'm afraid of:)
Becky
Heh... Bay used to talk to me as soon as the door opened in the morning, but now he knows I go out on the porch a couple times in the morning before it's feedin' time. Now he calls when I step ~off~ the porch ;~D
They really are smart:)
I just wish I knew why just out of the blue he was out there talking this morning.
Becky
Good morning ping... pinging my list because MissTargets is without hers this morning :~D
