This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well, do you think she's right? Could that really be the problem?
Becky
Huh - Isn't that interesting!
Hmm I'm not sure, but it sounds plausible. But is he short or long backed with long legs? And how bad does he forge?
Oh, I'm so sorry. But I'm glad you took her back.
Becky
The vet said he wasn't way long in his back, but she classified him as long, he has long legs too, IMO. There were times when you could hear him clicking pretty good, especially at the trot.
Becky
Well, it's the first time I've heard forging described as an OK thing that shouldn't have been corrected, but it does make sense that if he isn't moving naturally and freely, that would lead to back problems. Would you put him in overstrike boots so he doesn't either scrape his heels or pull his front shoes off?
What was the deal when he was striking himself in the back? Might that now be thought to be related to this ~off~ movement?
Well if it's affecting his way of going, I'd say give it a shot and see what happens. Can you put him in over reach boots? (Bell boots?) But they don't allow those on CTRs, do they.. hmm... What she says makes sense. On one hand, forging isn't a good thing, and if he does it bad it needs to be corrected, but the reaction to it in the ring or anyplace where you're judged can be an over reaction. Has he ever pulled off a shoe because of this?
Well, I've got all three horses tied and de mudded... I'm going to lunge each of them for a bit... first return to work of spring. :~D
Hooray! Have fun!
You're talking about that internet doll thing aren't you?
You had me looking for a real doll. I even asked mom why she got rid of my kay-kay doll of all things. LOL, no wonder I don't remember it.
I won't tell you I was right but the minute I shake my fanny it comes back to haunt me. I am glad it is going to be resolved.
I hope she doesn't have any more complications from here on out. It looks like you were indeed right, I appreciate your input on it.
Humility is my middle name when I see it happen to others. I don't take anything for granted anymore.
Are you getting snow?
and Cyn...
Below is a test of the new Snapfish video hosting feature, tell me if it works for you! I think videos are a fun way to share a more complete image than a snapshot, it'd be fun if this works.
I filmed her doing some transitions... She goes from trot to canter, and back to trot, and then a Woah. I stopped the film too soon to show her come to a complete stop, but I was impressed with how responsive she was today. Just easy and willing, no smart alecky stuff at all. She can be such a turd, but the truth is, she works when it's time to work.
Video - Cyn lunging <<< Try to stream it and see if it streams well, but if your connection is real slow, it might play better if you right click the link, select "Save target as" and save it to your desktop before playing it.
If this works well, I'll try to experiment more with this video thing :~D
But in other news... while I thought I saw Bay's head bob a couple times the first time around, he loosened right up as he went. I don't lunge him very long, because circling is hard on him, but he's moving pretty good for not having been worked in awhile. I think he's good to go, but I'll probably still have the vet come and re-evaluate his Navicular symptoms this spring and see if we're still getting the best out of him we can with the current meds.
Cute! She has a nice relaxed forward motion, too. And voice trained . . .
It works fine for me! Great video. And we know what you sound like now :-)
So it worked? Did it stream fast or did you download it?
I say my words really funny lunging, I say "Cant-er" trying to sound upbeat and "TeeeRoT" to sound different than "Waaaaaalk" I didn't say it here, but when I say "Waaaalk" I say it really low, and two tones, so I sound like a foghorn. It works for me I guess :~D
