This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I just went and picked her up to look... it's just loose skin.
Well, I'm late getting here. I've not seen anything like this on any of my animals being spayed so I don't know what to tell you but I would sure be concerned.
Ok, ok. That's good. It's blue on my screen:')
I have my horse-vet's email addy, I've sent him pics before when I've had questions, but I don't have email for the small animal vet.
I've seen something sortof like this before when Logan was neutered. He was 8 when I neutered him. I took him home, and the next day he was hurting bad. Rolled him over and his testicles were BACK! poor guy, the sacks were all full of blood. But I had to laugh when I called the clinic and said "They're baaaaaaack!"
I tried to reach the kids and they aren't home yet so I can't check with them. How far away is the vet clinic? Can you just run her in and have them look at her in person?
They're closed at night... There's no one there. The on-call vet would have to come in.
I see, and the on call vet doesn't want to do that it sounds like.
Maybe call her back and ask her if she would like to see?
Is she already on antibiotics?
Well, she described it as a likely reaction to the sutures that happens from time to time... that it probably wouldn't blow up too bad in the night and the operating vet should check it in the morning. IOW, it should be seen, but first thing would be fine.
So what do I do?
They didn't give me antibiotics to take home, I don't know if they gave her any.
I don't know what you can do except just keep a close eye on her and if possible, kennel her so she doesn't try to jump up or anything, to keep her from tearing something. I've always kept my cats kenneled after spaying for about 12hrs so they do nothing but sleep off the seditives and can't move around much.
How about emailing the picture to your horse vet for his opinion, although, I think he'll tell you the same thing that vetvetdoug did. Could be nothing but could be something serious and there's really no way to tell without seeing the baby.
Well, dang... I guess if it continues to grow like it's an increasing threat, I'll call back.
And see if she'll be quiet in the crate. Left to her own, she's been fairly quiet, they're both sleeping, but they usually get a wild hair and run wild in the night ;~D
I just realized you already said she was spayed yesterday, not today, so she probably has been kenneled and slept off all the drugs.
I do think kenneling her is a good idea, and keep a close eye on her.
Yeah, I would crate her. That way you can monitor that she's pooping ok too. You might want to keep the other one away though.
Yeah - they let me take Pippin (the male) home the same day yesterday, but they kept her overnight and I picked her up this morning.
Well, we're gonna hit the couch. I didn't email my horse vet, gonna resist being a pest to him, I already verge on the 'pesky worry too much' category with him ;~D
I'll keep looking at this thing as we sit on the couch, but she was pretty sure about it being OK till morning so I hate to call her back unless it changes.
Seems in my experience some vets are 'wait and see' vets and some are the type to take more definite action. I think I usually prefer the latter, though it costs me more. If I've worried enough to call, I want them to see the cat, I don't want to be told there's nothing needed done. Oh well... I'll be taking her in first thing when they open in the morning unless something worse happens in the night. I do appreciate all your input.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and say a prayer for the kid - I'm sorry I can't give you a fix it solution.
IOW kennel the cat until first thing in the morning and get it in.
