The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, I'm trying to eat healthier. We eat out a lot and it's got lots of calories and expensive. You never know how someone is fixing your food either. I hung my head in shame and went back to Weight Watchers Sat. So for I've cooked every night. A record for me. Tonight, I got home late though so I heated some already cooked frahitas, made me some guacamole and tossed in a couple (well ok , 3) corn tortillas. Supper in 5 minutes:')

My granddaughter always wants to come over when I'm serving beans. I taught her the bean song and much to her parents shock she goes around singing it , where ever she's at for days.

We're pulling a Becky... Cyn's gonna stand tied for a few hours.

She's been a pain in the butt lately at feeding time, refusing to come in, she's just being weird about the mud, weird about the barn, and tonight she ~bit~ ecurbh when he tried to catch her. We caught her and did some ground work circling, and decided to tie her and feed the others. She's been on vacation too long.

Oh yeah - it just pissed him off, cuz she took a pass at him and ran off... He said bad words and I think she flipped him off and laughed.

It was not a pretty scene ;~D

That one that tried to bite me yesterday meant business. I've been around nippers but never one that opened his mouth that wide before. Ugly, ugly visual:') Glad you are ok Ecurbh. Girls just get moody sometimes.

Now the kitten's in time out nin his crate. He's drunk from his surgery and totally wired and hallucinating. It was funny for awhile, him running and flopping around, but I'm afraid we've run out of patience with most of our animals tonight. They're pissin' us off ;~D

LOL, animals will definitly do that:)

I watched another Clintion Anderson episode last night. He talked at lenght about how consistency is so important. That it is better to work your horse 10 minutes a day 3 days in a row then it is to work them 2 hours a session twice a week. So, I'd tie her up again today and tomorrow:)

He was actually working a horse on spooky things, plastic bags, tarps on the ground, the signs hanging around the arena, etc. But the being consistent, even with older well broke horses was repeated alot.

It was interesting, he said his horses have been suffering lately due to lack of being worked, before he started traveling he worked his 6 days a week. He says, I think it was within the next 2 years, he is going to stop traveling, as he will have enough money to go back to working his own horses 6 days a week. I think that's cool that his goals are not to do this stuff the rest of his life. Of course time will tell:). He says now, that he schedules himself to ride his horses 3 days in a row rather then every other day. They learn and retain things better.

I've always thought that when my horses have had a lot of time off they work perfect the SECOND day:). It's just getting thru that first one:)

Becky

Nice looking horse!

I'm glad you didn't get dumped on your ride. It always hurts, but it hurts worse when it's cold.

Heh, that's funny about Logan telling a lie to cover his boo-boo. People who say that animals don't think just haven't watched them much.

Oh wow, that's quite a gash...

LOL! Like Hair says, you must not've seen how it WAS. This is what it looked like back in September...

It had been done too long to stitch when I found it so they had to cut that big ol' nasty looking flap off, which made it even bigger. It looked like this after he got it cleaned up...

I've been posting a picture of it every month to show the healing progress. So you can see, it's come a long way. I used Granulex on it twice a day and irrigated and debrided once a day for about 3 months.

Hey, that sounds good. I make what I call beef and cabbage stew kinda like that. I brown a pound of ground beef with an onion, then chop up a half a head of cabbage and cook it in with the beef. When the cabbage is done, I add a couple cans of beans and a couple cans of tomato sauce. It's pretty good. One of those throw in what ever you want to kinda things.

I'm glad Cyn's getting a manner's lesson, the sassy little winch. I've got no patience for surliness at feeding time. If anybody gets nasty, everybody gets run back outside and we wait a while and start over.
