The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Last year the one I remember was that a couple soldiers were getting off a commercial airplane, obviously coming home, and as they walked through the airport everyone began to stand up and clap. It was a tearjerker.

Hair, with forest roads like that, you got no excuse for not riding all year long. Those are nice!

I've got the rain! Isn't that a good enough excuse? How about that my horse is hairy and muddy?

...I put a pot of beans on low with plenty of water last night but they burnt anyway...

LOL!!! I've done that on more than one occasion and it's really gross. It takes forever to get the smell out too. I burned one pot so bad that when I came back in the house from the barn there was a cloud of smoke that started about 3' from the floor and covered the whole house. It was so strange looking! It looked like somebody had taken a picture and removed the top half. They didn't catch on fire but I don't know how they kept from it. I had to open all the windows and put fans in them to draw it all out of the house. So I don't leave pots of beans unattended anymore. I ain't trustworthy enough. ;o)

When I saw that picture at first I thought "That is the most gawdawful box of chocolates I have ever seen!"
And then it hit me. They're your seedlings. D'oh!

EEEWWWWWW, that sounds horrible. Hope it's nothing.

I've got a list wrote down of all the things i want the vet to check. I want all this stuff resolved so I can ride and not worry about "What am I hurting?" For heavens sake a horse this young shouldn't have ANY problems. And I don't think he does, I just want to make sure. I've gotten parnoid of hidden problems that suddenly turn into unhidden problems:)

Try a crock pot. I don't think you could burn them in one of those if you wanted to. I've left them several days and their just fine.

I love crock pot meals. You can get your meal cooking in the morning, when your fresh, then in by supper time when your tired and don't feel like cooking the cooking is done:)

It's good to be alert and give them a good once-over once a year regardless.

The thing in Pippin feels like it flips from 'up' to 'down' like a light switch under the skin... It's really weird. It doesn't hurt him. I just don't know if this is some kind of birth defect, or did it get broken one of the times he got stepped on or fell off something....?

Without being able to see the picture here at work, I would say to tip the cover. I am assuming that is to let air in, right? Just make sure the soil does not dry out. You will have to be careful and water from the bottom, or else mist. If you pour too much water from the top, they seedlings can get damaged.

Also, you could cover the area where the seeds are not up, with plastic wrap. That will keep the moisture in.

Well, the rain is a fairly decent excuse, but not the hairy muddy horses. I got those too. But surely you get a day or two on the weekends during the winter that it doesn't rain.

Yeah, I've cooked 'em in the crock pot before and they're really good that way, but the trouble with crock pots is that you actually have to PLAN to cook them. I'm so scatter brained that I don't know what I'm going to have for supper until I get home that night. Then I'm boiling them like crazy to get them done. Hence the burned beans. A cook I am not!

I asked about the gravel roads because I knew you didn't shoe Cyn. You'd just about have to if you rode there alot.

How's she doing now, has she grown out much this winter. I think I remember that you were thinking you may have to shoe her if you rode more then you did last summer?

LOL...oh OK. When I cook beans, I usually actually start them the night before while I'm in the kitchen cooking that nights meal. Then they cook all night and all the next day.

You're right about having to plan to have them if you cook them in a crock pot. Even starting them early in the morning sometimes isn't enough.

I don't cook them often. I'm not particularly fond of them but Mack likes them occasionally.

Speaking of Monsters, here's a funny pic I took last night. I was trying to get a picture of my other cat Buster looking like he's been broke in half while he was laying on the couch licking his belly, but there were curious minds in the room so this is what I got...

Cav's kitty, Little B, saying "Whatcha doin'?" I swear this cat is the biggest camera hog I've ever seen!

The intended picture...

I don't know how cats lay this way. It looks incredibly uncomfortable to me.

Heh... Cartman does that to clean himself, but the embarrassing part is he still can't reach ;~D

I like the camera hog cat :~D

I posted some this morning in the hobbit hole that I actually took yesterday, of Tweek playing in the fish tank.
