The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Huh - good advice to file away somewhere!

Of course, one thing I stress with people who have horses that are tough loading, particularly if they didn't used to be, is that the idea of "Make it hard out of the trailer, and comfortable in the trailer" extends to your driving as well... it only takes a few bad corners and sudden stops before the trailer is a scary place again.

I'd recommend that people who have never ridden back there try it sometime. I've ridden several times in the back - in the past, riding with babies to keep them quiet and help them balance, and it's a good experience to encourage slow and easy good trailer driving.

He stopped by my house and told me the low pipe was for me, and I was welcome to ride there anytime,

Hey that's wonderful! But yikes, he sounds like he has a temper. Sounds like he really wants to drive his point home! :-)

We had a problem on my parent's property with a guy down the street 4 wheeling on our property. Part of it is a protected tree farm, though part of it is also protected wetlands. Well needless to say the guy destroyed things pretty bad, destroyed the little wooden bridges my dad had put across streams etc as well as tearing up the land. We've also had problems with yuppie hunters coming right up to the edge of the treeline looking for deer and cutting through our yard, and our vegetable garden!

But I hope that sign doesn't antagonize anything, which I'm guessing it will eventually.

I will agree with Beaker that you should look for another place to ride. You do not want to get caught in a crossfire while riding those trails.

BTW; there is nothing like having several heavily armed hunters on 4wheelers ride up to you in your pasture and inform you that they are going to hunt on your land...........

I watched that one too and also thought it was very good. That's basically how I trained Tennessee to get in my 3-horse slant. He's still not "happy" to be in there, but he will get in. I've got to find some time to work with him on it some more, before I take him to that shoeing clinic. I hate having loading problems in front of a bunch of people who want to "help". It's dark every day when I get to the barn so it's really hard to get it done. I'm living for Daylight Savings Time!

Me too! I spent all day printing 1099s yesterday. I so appreciated the folks in accounting waiting 'til the last possible minute. And of course the main printer was not working when I got in there and I had to go find another one, which happened to be down the hall in a CLOSET. Nothing like running a large impact printer with the forms door open in a confined space. Luckily I had earmuffs.

hehehehe....I'm really looking forward to it.

I mentioned in the Hobbit Hole that I don't think I'll get much sleep tonight since I'll be worried about missing such an early flight.
