Eeek - would he have seen the sign?
When he goes back there he'll see it, it's BIG. But where the sign is where I turn around to come home from my walks, and I didn't see it there this morning. So he just put it up today.
Becky
Jeez Louise! I agree with you, signs like that are like gasoline on a fire. If he thought he was having problems before, buddy he ain't seen nuthin yet. People that'll ride 4-wheelers on your place and tear things up don't care about anything and a sign like that will only piss them off. Be careful over there coz there's likely to be a war.
I've heard of people who will shoot the dog for running possums instead of coons, and the ones who don't will shoot the possum then beat the dog with it and tie it's dead body around his neck until it rots off. Some Coon hunters aren't the most likeable people in the world, but their dogs will only chase a possum one time. ;o)
Old buses with an engine or trans are priced as high as a complete running bus.
Who woulda thunk it............
Not me, that's for sure.
Not bored, just well fed and content..........
They are well fed ;~D But I do think they're bored... they perked up so much during our brief sun yesterday... there's just no fun in bein' a horse when it's drippy muddy slippery and damp.
We're ready for spring.... oh so ready.
We are having some warm sunny days but they are not Springlike yet. Still too dry down here. We need some of your rain.......
I'd send it if I could get it in a box.
A semi-truck load would be better.......
Thank you for the link to the breeder. I'm very interested in looking through her stock. Sorry about Henkell's injuries. It's always something isnt it? He looks like a beautiful mover. I'm very impressed with the breed.
My line, btw, was airlifted out of Poland by Patton in 1945. They were cross bred with Raffles and Raseyn offspring, the result being Ferzon, Gazon and ultimately my sweet little Arabs. The Trakehners is such a nice cross. Who knows, maybe I'll introduce something new to Georgia. In any case, I'm certain to like the result! I just cant decide on color. ;) Do I want a black, bay, palomino or cremello? My mare is a chestnut so if I breed her I only have the option of black, bay or palomino. Decisions. Decions. Anyway, love the breed! Thank you for posting those photos and giving me so much info. Maybe I'll name her first born after you. "Henkell Jake and Shake" hmmm.....it needs work. ;)
Beautiful shot.
I'm back and forth between FR and a project, waiting for the Prez's speech.
We are dangerously dry here in TX. Up in the Panhandle they have lost their wheat crop and are not even going to try to plant for spring.
Do shop around. Some dealers will really gouge you.
Anne
I'm about to run out and get horses in the barn a'fore the speech.
I sure hope you get rain soon... feast or famine some years.
I just got done watching another episode of the Horseman downunder. It was a very good one. Trailer loading:)

A good topic! What was learned?
Half-trakehners out of Arab mares may be eligible for the appendix registry. I can't remember all the rules but Arabs and Tb mares are allowed as dams. You can check out what is required at www.americantrakehner.com. It is a good cross, and would still be eligible for the half-Arab registry too. I know of a half-trakhener/half-arab stallion standing out here near me. I know his owner. His name is TF Peron's Brilliance, and is by Peron, who was an Olympic-level competitor in dressage, and out of an Arab mare. Anyway, you can shop for stallions on the website and dream of a possible future baby!
"Henkell" is the family name of a family of champagne and beer brewers in Germany. His name starts with an "H" because his dam's name starts with an "H". Shake N Jake is the show name of my bay QH, Jake, whose actual AQHA name is Ain't Fooling Around.
Gee, what happens when you shake up a bottle of champagne or beer!!!! Both my guys are very "bubbly"!
So your Arabs are Polish. I just love those Polish arabs. A lady at the barn where I used to board had 2 of them. They were just the nicest horses and very easy to look at.
Polish Arab and Trakehner would make a lovely cross. The body types are very similar so you wouldn't get something strange looking. You would probably get a taller Polish-arab looking horse. Some crosses can be a mixed bag such as draft/tb. Sometimes you get a draft head and body on skinny TB legs. But Polish Arab/Trak would fit together very well. In fact, Polish arabs were used as an improvement breed in the Traks. One of Henkell's ancestors, Maharadscha, was a Polish arab and had a significant impact on the Trak breed.
They didn't show it but I guess the owner of this horse tried to load the horse before filming started. I don't know how bad it was but obviously the horse wouldn't go in.
He started first by lunging the horse near the trailer, and slowly made the space between him and the trailer narrower and narrower. The doors were closed, no pressure for the horse to go in. He did that at the back and on all sides.
When the horse was passing between him and the trailer comfortably, he opened the door of the trailer, and let down the ramp, (he likes ramps). And lunged the horse closer and closer to the ramp till finally the horse had to step on the ramp to go by. That took some time, the horse would swing sidewise, her butt coming his direction. When that happened she got the stick till she moved her butt away. Now, he only want her to go across the ramp from side to side, not head into the trailer. Then of course once she was going across from one direction she had to do it from the other.
The theory was no pressure to going in just getting use to the noise of stepping on the ramp and the feeling of the move ment. If you don't have a ramp you put a wooden pallet down with ply wood on top. Makes noise and moves when stepped on.
Then he had her step on the ramp facing into the trailer, but didn't let her go in. Stop, rest, and back and go lunge a bit, then step back up a little further, stop, rest, back, lunge. In a little further, stop rest back lunge. The point being that the horse gets to rest in the trailer and works out of the trailer.
No kidding, unless it was cut out, it didn't take long till that horse was begging to get in that trailer:). He said you do this for ANY trailering problem. Make it hard out of the trailer, and comfortable in the trailer. He lunged her close to the trailer, but not where she HAD to go in, but she went right in. He didn't shut the door, he let go of the rope and walked off, and she just stood there. He said if she had come out that was OK, he'd just lunge her somemore:)
He said he always ties them inside, he always makes them back out, and he never gives them feed till they have been successfully loading for awhile without it.
