Good Morning, it's very rainy windy and raw here. Blech. It has been this way since Friday.
Thanks for the update and link. I had no idea he had been injuried. How disappointing, he will not be able to race in the Breeder's Cup.
A mouse fell in her bucket last night and drowned, so she didn't drink out of it at least half the night because of that, so it wasn't a real good test. See you all later, I'm on the road again today, back late this afternoon.
Just checking in for a few minutes. FR seems slow all over the board. There is very little new "breaking"
Virtually no one who raced in the Triple Crown races will be around for the Breeder's Cup. There may be one or two, but that's it. The best horse to look forward to is probably Lost In The Fog. He will be in the Sprint. He has won 10 in a row and is undefeated. He is a VERY good little horse.
My son-in-law just came home, totally upset. He had just witnessed an Amish horse get hit by a car. The family, in the buggy, were not hurt, and neither was the driver of the car. The car ended up on top of the horse. Poor thing was kicking trying to get up. My SIL held the horse while the policeman shot it. He (SIL) tried to get them to move the car off the horse first, but like I told him, the damage internally would probably had been too great. It's a dark cloudy day here today, and it would be hard to see a black buggy. Still, there are a lot of Amish in the area, and people should be cautious.
How sad! But how can a car miss a horse? Even dark and cloudy, a horse??? I have a suspicion that the driver may not have been paying as much attention as s/he should have.
Oh - that would haunt me to see that. I feel for your SIL in trying to shake those images, and for the poor horse who suffered.
That would haunt me forever also. Especially now, as he is starting a new job in that area, and will pass buggies all the time now. There are too many of those accidents. People just get in a hurry. There was a buggy lane made on the hilly parts, but this must not have been one of those.
The images stay with you a long time. Worse because the horse lived while he held it, I bet.
A couple years ago I witnessed a fatal pedestrian accident - two people were hit by an oncoming car, both ended up dying, one immediately and one later, and I think it was a long time before I didn't see those scenes play in my head when I closed my eyes.
It has impact, and though I can't feel for the horse any more, it's too late for him, I can feel for those that witnessed it.
I'm really not relocating, I would spend winters south and the rest of the yr at our cabin. It is hard to leave friends and kids etc. But if I pick a nice warm place for the winter, I'm sure I'll have lots of visitors !!
My grandparents lived at the beach house we still have in the family, and I remember when we were at the house one nice sunny Saturday and there was a knock at the door. She looked, and whispered "Oh - it's Nancy, she's one of my fair-weather friends!" And there was Nancy and her whole family, kids all in beachwear with shovels and buckets, just stopping by, for the whole afternoon. :~D
Grandma didn't mind :~D
I used to work at a trauma ER and saw a lot of injuries and illness. I don't remember many specific instances but I remember the kids that were killed or died. Sometimes I'll see something like a personal item they were wearing or a bike or ball and the memories just pop up. I guess they always will.
We had a horse get out after dark and get killed here. A dark horse, a dark night and the driver supposedly going to fast.
I applied for another position today. I don't mind a pay cut. I'm delegated out.
Yeah - Those images have impact for a long time... For me, what haunted me most is the playback in my head of moments that led up to this old couple getting hit... for some number of seconds (seemed like a long time) I was the only one who knew they were about to be hit. They were oblivious, and, obviously, so was the driver of the other car.
Rebecca and I are going to attend a formal riding lesson this Saturday at that new place I've been wanting to check out. An hour and half lesson for $30.00.
I spoke to the owner for a good 20 minutes today. A really wonderful lady! I'm really excited about the lesson since it starts fom the ground up - how to care for, saddle and then ride a horse. :-D
Here's their website.
Pretty place. That's not a bad price. I pay 25 an hr here and 35 at the new place I'm going to. Funny. I chuckled when I read about the soda machines. I understand the importance of putting it on a web site. Many days, during the summer, I would have to break and go to the convience store:')
It seems pretty terrific. Especially compared to the other place I've been going.
One port-a-potty and almost-always broken or empty soda machine was not the best fun.
I'll report back after I've seen this one.
Sounds great.... I really hope you enjoy the lessons there.
