The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good Morning. Wind and rain here. Mild... it's supposed to be in the 50s. I'm hoping for good weather this weekend, because I haven't been on the back of a horse in a month, and my trainer is probably not too happy with me! :-) I'm in for a boot camp type lesson come Saturday.

We've been the dually route, overrated:). My son has one and the gas mileage is, well, horrible.

Like the pharm companies, I think the car dealers have brainwashed everyone into thinking they need these huge trucks to pull anything. I've pulled my two horse slant with front tack room now with a 1/2 ton now for 10 years, and have never had a problem.

I can see having a bigger truck if you go ALL the time and for long distances. But I just don't go that often.

I just got back from my morning walk and way overdressed. Yesterday it was so cold. We're suppose to hit 65 today:). I'll probably ride this afternoon.

LOL!! I think you look cute, and not near as goofy looking as I looked in mine when my husband took my picture. I had a head light strapped on my head on top of the hat, a red rubber raincoat and knee-high black rubber boots. Real cute!

LOL. Thanks:). I looked at those lights that you strap on your head. I almost bought one. I think they would be very handy when I go out to feed at night.

It was cold and rainy here yesterday too. It rained ALL day. It didn't start to get really cold until late afternoon though. I had to fasten poor little Ellie in the barn isle with the hay last night because the bigger horses scare her and she won't get in the run-in shed with them so she was soaked to the skin when I went to feed yesterday afternoon and was shivering. It got down below freezing last night and we had a little snow so I'm glad I did. None of it stuck. It was too wet, but the roads were a little slick this morning just from all the rain we had. It's nice and sunny this morning and is supposed to warm up so I stopped by before work and let her out. She was all nice and fluffy looking and I'm sure she got a full belly from muching on the rolls of hay in there. Everybody else seemed a little grumpy that they weren't in there too but they've got their own roll to eat in the side of the barn. They seemed to think that they were due some breakfast since I was there but they were sadly mistaken. Poor abused horses! ;o)

That's exactly what I used it for. I didn't have power at the barn where I used to live. Mine has a zenon bulb so it's really bright and can be focused to a fine beam or out to a wide one. I could see all kinds of eyes out in the pasture with it. It was weird, you could even see spider and moth's eyes if you looked for them. Strange!

I've got all kinds of lights at my BIL's barn so I don't use it much anymore but it's still nice to have, especially if you're working on a car and need your hands free.

You still have that picture:) We'd love to see it:)

I'll probably be a sight when/if I get that coat from Julia:) But I just don't care if I stay warm and dry. And I hate rain on my head and in my face.

Well, I failed... there's something odd about it... and not just how it looks ;~D

I can't figure out how to save the gif so it could be uploaded.... I forwarded it to my husband, cuz he's the coolest guy I know and he can probably figure it out.... But it might be tonight if he's busy at work.

Well if anybody can, y'all can. I figured it might be on the internet somewhere, like Strangecosmos, but I didn't find it by googling "Shorty the Quarter Horse". I've seen the still version of it before, on Worth1000 I think, but not the gif. I thought it was pretty funny.

Heh - that's really disturbing.

When I tried to save it, it tried to save it as a bitmap.
