This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
ecurbh came home with 10 bales of hay and 4 of them were wet and we put them back on the truck.
ecurbh said the guy loading it had thrown aside ones that must have been worse, but that won't do. Plus, it's mostly alfalfa. I'm gonna take them back and exchange them tomorrow. The reason we're paying a premium for their hay is it's supposed to be ~better~. I hate to sit and inspect each bale as they're putting it on the truck, but I hate moldy hay worse.
The whole delivery probably got wet on the way over last week.
That's what this will be - a ton. It's so dry here that I don't think it will be a problem. I'm glad to hear you did it, makes me more comfortable :)
I never thought about it till now, I'll bet it has been hard to get hay that hasn't gotten wet with all the rain you all are getting.
Moldy hay is NOT good. I hope they have some decent for you to exchange.
Becky
It probably did get wet coming in but that doesn't make it any better. And since you don't feed alfalfa, that's another problem. Good luck tomorrow.
No, it's not good at all. I looked over what I fed tonight pretty well and think it's OK.
Pony wasn't sure what to do with it. Because it was also an alfalfa rich mix, it was a really solid flake and she didn't know whether to eat it of stand on it.
It's just kinda rich... I can expect frisky horses in a day or two ;~D
Yeh, I expect they got a good dose of high protein :)I believe alfalfa is about 13% protein.
They're great about exchanging... they never give me trouble... it's just making sure the stuff they give me in exchange is better.
There's a lot of half grass half alfalfa fields, it's a pretty common thing to mix it, maybe particularly for the last cutting? I dunno bout that... when they sow what.
Yes, you can buy 1/2 and 1/2 here - it's grown like that. I'm glad you won't have a problem exchanging it.
LOL - like minds...I'm thinking it sure is a pretty car but a new Dodge would be really cool. Guess that's because we're reaching the point where we desperately need a new truck, our Dodge is a '92 and tired of hauling over the mountains.
It is two spots on his shoulder and a larger one on his neck.(rectangular) The edges smooth and hair missing. It looks like he was carrot sliced. The skin white. This one was covered today though. I thought it was infected but after I cleaned the dark layer off it looked ok. I thought a 1st it was a scab but it was skin.
We are having to get the transmission rebuilt in our "96". My husband had to rent a truck this weekend. He got a 4 door crew cab. He loved it and has been truck shopping. He's not going to like the prices though:')
I've been looking at used trucks, hoping to find one for Bob for his birthday in February. There is no way we can afford a new Dodge truck. He wants another diesel, crew cab or cab plus, 2500 4X4 with automatic transmission. New we're talking $38,000.
We have to go almost new:') Our truck has a back seat but it's a narrow one. I have space for 2 in the back in my car. Something like a 4 door full cab would work for us.
That shoulder is sore too.
I talk to him now too. Today I was telling him " Buddy if you won I hate to see the horse that lost"
LOL Well, I keep hoping in the not too distant future you'll have your own place and he and SL won't have to deal with the pasture bullies.
Good Morning. Snowing a little this morning. Not real cold, but wind is strong.
