The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

How sad:(. Funny that anyone would think a "building" is prettier then trees. I'd much rather photograph trees.

It's sad because they destroyed one of the more scenic views of the capital, instead of improving it. Now if you take the picture, it's a building on top of a hill that has a lot of equipment, mud slides and fencing on it.

It'll be years now before it doesn't look like a scab.

Julia and I rode today. It was very windy.

She has already sold that horse and actually sold him for $100 more then she gave. $1300. In one day. Go figure. It was a rather ugly horse too.

I went ahead and ordered one of those hats from another place. The shipping was almost more then the hat, but since I can't find one around here, and even with the shipping it was about what I was expecting to pay if I did find one.

I also might have come across a good deal on a raincoat. I didn't really want the kind I've been looking at, because 1. I don't want pants, puts too much between you and the horse and too much in the saddle, and 2, the coats I've looked at are only for rain, not cold. If it's rainy AND cold I'd have to wear a coat under int and I don't want to do that. (I'm not picky or anything am I:).

Anyway Julia has one of those Austrailan Oil Cloth coats. She never wore it, it was too big for her, but she thinks it will fit me. She paid $180 for it, and will sell it to me for $30.

I told her I'd want to try it first, but it might work. I wouldn't have to wear anything under it because it has a detable liner. Charlie had one as a kid, and I know those things are warm and will keep you dry, and will stay out of the way on a horse. Their built for riding.

You all ever heard anything about them, have one?

Becky

LOL...Julia said she bought it mainly to "look" the part:)...LOL...I told her I didn't care if it was pink polkadots. If it kept me warm AND dry, it would be worth it:)

That was one of the questions I asked her but she couldn't answer, how much flapping is it going to do???? I think Harley would get use to it, but just was wondering.

Some of my riding buddies have them and I think my sister has one, although she doesn't ride anymore, but they all like them. They kinda stink, but other than that, I think everybody likes them. You do have to re-coat them every few years I think. There's some kinda stuff you can buy that'll do it.

I finally got some pictures of my runs.

Harleys

Behind the barn where they come together. You can see the strand running across Rocky that divides them, and the two gate handles that open them to the pasture

Rocky's

I really like this fence posts and twine. They're alot easier to get in the ground here, and the twine is alot easier to work with then wire.
