The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

That's quite a thorough update on a lot of subjects! I'm sure Tuffy is glad to hear that your horse is again sound after foundering last year.

Haven't been on in a week due to our vacation down in SC. We went down to look at areas that might be attractive when I retire in 3 yrs.(Mr. Estrogen is already retired)

We went to Seabrook Island south of Charleston and I loved it but it is really pricey. They have an equestrian center with trails and beach rides, but I don't think we could afford it. We also looked at Moss Creek near Hilton Head. Nice area and reasonably priced. Only trouble, no trails. They are more attuned to showing which I don't do. I really want to go somewhere warm in the winter,I can't take Ohio winters anymore. Hope we find something.

I just wanted her to know that there is life after founder. I watch for arthritis flare ups but that was quiesent for a year. I was having people ask to ride her in shows again since she is a nice jumper and excellant trail horse. I have had my mare for 21 years and we have raced at steeplechases, done pair events over 4-7 miles with 25 - 30 fences. , x country , fox hunting , show and a lot of trails.
I have done dressage one day and raced the next. My mare which I use her name as my screen name has a sane mind and has generally been sound. Don't do as much now. I get too busy and she doesn't have quite the energy as she used to have.

Well, glad she's doing so well.

My Bay is 23 and also doing pretty well, never foundered, but does have a bit of Navicular we're being careful about.

Also, I have found out founder may be the horses old age insulin reaction . Like old age diabetes being unable to deal with blood sugar. I think that due to her age she has more problems managing the blood sugar which triggered the founder symptoms. That would make sense for horses that are over weight getting founder.Easy keepers are more susceptible than TB horses.

Oh it sounds like you had a ball. Can't help but be proud of yourself and your mare with that kind of time, even if you'd done it 100 times :) Congrats!
