This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
My horses go after the dogs too, but I can't blame them. If they don't go after the dogs, the dogs go after them.
I've even seen Harley go after the rooster:) Now that I only have one rooster, he has taken up residence in Rocky's stall. Rocky doesn't seem to mind.

I don't know if I'll get two walks in today. I'm going with Jenny to the doctor this afternoon. But we are going to leave early and go walk around the mall, and Barnes and Noble. She has a gift certificate. I'll do alot of walking, but it won't be at exercise pace. Jenny's really carrying a load:)

Good grief! Now that's a bad scene! Glad it worked out OK in the end.
I don't let the horses and dogs loose together, and it's not because I think the dog will hang on their tails either ;~D I think the dogs would lose... particularly because Gidget will go hunker at the gate wanting out, and she's a little cornered there.
It was funny when my old Logan was old and deaf and kindof unaware of his surroundings, because he'd still get out into the paddock to eat horse-s__t if he could get it.... The pony ran by and took a flyin' kick at him and her feet must have breezed inches from his head. He didn't even look up. He wasn't safe out there ;~D
Bay will pick them up by the back. He's gotten Gidget a couple times and that really hurts. She was screamin bloody murder.
Now it's my turn to say "Good Grief!". Poor ol' Gidget, I'd scream bloody murder too. It's a wonder he didn't bite a plug out of her back. Now that'd be really nasty!
She got a big knot from it and the skin turned pretty purple. Bay's a biter when it comes to dogs, I've seen him reach for other people's dogs that get underfoot when we meet them on trail.
Wow, my horses have never bite one. Ouch! Mine just strike out with their front feet. That's bad enough.
Becky
I don't know what's up with Bay, he could have a dog under him and easily reachable by all four feet, but he'll turn around and try to bite 'em. Never kicks. Never strikes.
I've been home sick all week but before that I started using the treadmill, 30 minutes after work in our gym.
LOL:)

That's what mine do. Truly almost stomped my FIL's little dog to death one afternoon when I was letting her graze on a lead out in the yard. I was standing there talking to my FIL and the dog was just standing there too and Truly had her head down grazing and the dog got about 3 or 4 feet from her head and she just lunged at him and clopped him on the head with her right front foot. I thought he was dead too. He rolled up in a little ball and made this little squeaking sound and blood came out of his ears. It was awful and I felt so bad about it. He came to after a few minutes and seemed to be ok, althought a bit addled. I never trusted her around small animals after that.
She doesn't seem to remember the incident at all. Either that or she doesn't hold grudges.
...I yelled "you little.....
LOL!!! That's what I'd've yelled too, only I'd've probably finished the sentence. I don't have very good breaks on my mouth. ;o)
Sounds like we are all working on getting healthier this year ~ good goals :)
Heh! Not me, I'm still as lazy and worthless as ever. ;o)
You are welcome
You got a good pedometer, good to know the total steps, how many minutes for that mile?
Walking exercises every part in your body, and is probably the best form of aerobic exercise.Walking/exercise in the morning is a good energy perk, and you continue to burn calories after you have stopped walking. Don't forget to drink the water.
Have you started with any wts. yet? To build up the muscles. Muscle burns calories also. You can be heavier with muscle wt but look 20lbs thin.
Little Changes Work
As many of us have learned from sad experience, it takes very little excess food input on a regular basis ('excess' both in caloric terms, and in relation to energy output) to begin to store excess pounds. All you have to do is eat just a few hundred calories a day more than you need (like the equivalent of one candy bar, or a few slices of bread) and be inactive with your body, and you will eventually add weight. Once this habit is ingrained in you, it's very hard to break it.
Specifically, it takes 3,500 additional calories to gain 1 pound of weight. (also, you have to burn 3500 cal to loose 1 lb)That's about 3 extra plates of food, or 14 big sodas (20 oz. size) or about 5 double-size burgers.
The good news is, even small reductions in eating, coupled with moderate increases in activity, can begin to help you lose weight.
Try this: just cut out one thing from your food routine and see what happens. Stop drinking sodas. Substitute flavored seltzers, or iced tea, or best of all WATER instead. Or cut out desserts, except once a week on Saturday night if you must. I'll bet you lose some weight. No severe crash diets necessary. Just a slight change. A little at a time works best. Make a commitment to do this for a month. Then recommit every day. Good Luck to everyone

Well, I'll just call a mile four times around and call it close enough :~D
I might be remembering wrong what you said it was before :~D
Well, farrier has come and gone - now I've got rest and some lunch and a shower and then it's to the vets for shots for the monsters. :~D
Weight is my concern, my horse is a year older and I should be lighter than last year, not heavier.
So there's that, and the fact that I'd feel better to look better :~D
Good luck with the little Monsters. Hopefully they'll cooperate.
Why didn't you bite him back?
