The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Hey Frog, I was thinking we might hear from you today:) Glad you're back.

I bought those dishes thru a magazine years and years ago. I think it was ABC Distributors. The name on the bottom of the plate is: Tienshan "Deck the Halls".
Made in China:\.

I really like the set, but from the magazine there were no serving bowls or platters, just the place settings, which included the dinner plate, the salad plate a soup bowl and cup and saucer. Over the years I found a set of plain white serving bowls I liked, but I'm still looking for some more, and some platters to go with it.

OOOOO....new saddle ordered? Have you told us about it, I don't remember? What's it going to be like?

Good morning.

The fires must have burned themselves out, I don't smell any smoke this morning. The wind is still blowing pretty good, and looks like it's going to be another sunny day, but maybe not as warm.

Well, welcome back!

Boy, we sure woke up to a ruckus at 3 am. Yipping and screeching in the woods. It woke us up and we went out and listened long enough to assess that it was relatively close in the woods, involved at least one or two coyotes, and something was being hurt. That's all I really know. I couldn't really tell, but I ~think~ the voices were all canine. I think it was a fight between coyotes. The weird thing is, standing there not knowing what else to do, I yelled "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!!!!" as LOUD as I could and it just stopped. Instantly. No followup... No sound of anything running off. Just nothing more. That was just as puzzling as the noise itself. We looked around with out spotlight and saw nothing.

sorry to hear your horse is not doing well. Prayers that the fever will come down and you can find out what the problem is.
We do not have problems with fire, we have had so much rain we have flooding. We are constantly under a tornado watch or warning. Thunder and lightening and hail stones is becoming part of every day life.
I wanted to check on the fire situation in Tx and Ok but our tv satelite is down. I am writting this on the laptop.

Prayers that everyone stays safe, all the animals too.

Are you watching the Rose Bowl? Did you see the Appaloosas? Do they normally high step like that or are they trained? Only two were doing it. I didn't see any torture boots or hoofs or anything.

I think you are still under tornado watches. Our morning news had the mid gulf states all in red this morning.

Appys are pretty versitile and if they are trained they can handle just about any gait. Also, if they want to move out faster than they can in the parade, they are likely to do that. I'm not watching it so I don't know for sure.

Rain again, more flooding and our road is close to impassable with the flooding. Large ruts have been washed out where a vehicle will bottom out but we can't see them because the whole road is covered in water again.

We woke up early 3:30am - and had breakfast and went to the grocery store and drove around to check the flooding. Sorry, Hair, I forgot the camera :(

I think I mentioned the new saddle back when I ordered it, but maybe not. An Amish guy is making it for me. It'll look similar to this one...

It'll have basketweave tooling like this but it'll be a dark mahogany colored with a black seat and will have a horn. I don't particularly like that additional black leather they have in the first layer of skirting on this particular picture, but it's the closest one I could find to what I ordered. I also ordered the leather covered, extra deep cushioned stirrups. I've had them before on another saddle and they were really nice.

That's really weird about the ruckus at 3am. Maybe the coyotes were squabbling over some tasty morsel one of them had just caught. That's funny about it all stopping when you hollered. I've found that a really loud "HEY!!!" will break up most anything too. My horses will stop whatever they are doing and run when they hear that coz they know that Mr. Stick is fixing to have a talk with somebody's butt. ;o)

It was thundering and raining here this morning when I was up at 3am, but it blew on over your way and left us with a gorgeous sunny day. Hopefully it'll blow on over you as fast as it left us. It was nearly 70 degrees at 10:30. I got out early to help my FIL at the barn. He's digging out all the knee deep muck in front of the side barn door with the front end loader and I got a 15' x 30' piece of geo-textile fabric from the Co-Op and put it down under about 8 inches of gravel. Muck should never be a problem there again. I was tickled to death to get it done. I was afraid that the horses were going to hurt their legs in all that deep mud, plus their feet were getting fungus. We're not finished yet and we've quit for the moment because Alabama is playing Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl and he had to go watch it. I took pictures and will post them tomorrow.

Well that sounds lovely! Y'all be careful then when driving through puddles coz you never know which ones are gonna be car-eaters. We con't want to see you and Bob on CNN being rescued by some guy in a jet ski! ;o)

There is also a breed with Appaloosa markings that is a gaited breed. I don't recall the name now, but if they were stepping a gait that something really unusual, and not just being prancy dancy, it may be one of them.

It's called a "Tiger Horse" I think, which sounds really weird to me because tigers are striped, not spotted, but what do I know. Somebody posted a link to their website a while back, maybe it was Duchess, and I saved it on my work PC because a friend of mine has a gaited App and I was going to tell her about it.

Ain't going back for good, just gonna visit every now and then. I'll still have my english and will probably ride it most of the time but thought it'd be nice to have a second saddle so I can take friends riding with me sometimes. I mean, I got 7 horses, soon to be 9, they need to be doing something other than burning hay. I've ridden Grace a few more times but I still think I'm going to take her to the trainer. She'll be a really nice one when she gets some miles on her, she's so mellow, then it'll be time for Hope to go. She'll be 2 in May. I'm gonna be up to my eyeballs in riding horses!

Have you got more babies coming this spring too?

It was some medieval group riding with "knights" so I was wondering if they were trained to do this since they led. I've seen Okie do this sometimes but he does it naturally.
