The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I would love to but those are my first two days off after this semester is over and I found out plans have already been made for me to do stuff with Darcy on Friday and Anne on Saturday. As far as I know Sunday is still open.

Johnny has just about realized these days that if it doesn't come from the microwave or he doesn't cook it that if will most likely be take out.

No, and honestly I never have. Johnny runs the ac 12 months
a year. I just put wood in there for decoration.

Yeah we do that here. Eddie likes it cold. Freezes me. He's on an energy kick. He turned the water heater down and put a lock on the AC. He gave me the code but thinks it's funny that I can't figure how to turn it up. That's ok. I hop in the shower first and even though I can't set it, I've figured out how to turn the AC off:')

A mentally retard boy, 18, who lived here in my neighborhood is believed to have walked away from his group home around 1:00 on Mon. and got lost in the woods up here. They were searching for him Mon. night with helicopoters. The last I heard yesterday morning was he still had not been found. I had planned on watching the evening news but missed it. No helicopters were flying around yesterday afternoon, so I was hoping they found him.

Well I remembered to at least get it out there:). The main reason I forgot it was the tack room door on my trailer has come off the hinges, it's going to have to be welded back, but everytime I open it now it falls over and some times hits me in the head. It's very heavy. The case I carry the camera in was in the trailer and I just kept putting off opening the door. I've been taking my saddle and bridle to the house instead of keeping it in the trailer. It's easy to do that now with the lighter weight saddle.

She took it off.
I thought it was pretty funny.

Oh, I hope they found him too...they must have, I didn't hear anything and I watched both news programs at 5:30pm and 6pm.

Calmer day today, it seems. I heard the wind howling in the night, though! Hopefully they'll get the fires under control throughout the state today.

We went to a funeral in Mannford a couple of weeks ago and drove by a huge grass fire...gave my youngest jedi nighmares.

Well, I wouldn't want you to get hit in the head by the door just for the sake of a couple pictures! So I guess that's forgivable :~D

Good morning! I guess the painting and such wore me out, because I slept in late this morning :~D

Good morning all.

Reading about the fires north of here. It's dry here in the hill country but no fires. Watch out for those evil doors!

Good morning:)

I'm suppose to ride again tomorrow with Julia. I'll try to find another carrying case, or get mack to help open that door:)

Julia is a funny person. She has very very low confidence riding horses. The few times I've rode with her, about all she talks about is being worried that she is going to get bucked off. When she first started looking for a horse a few years ago, (she rode alot as a child, and wanted to get back into it a few years ago, she's about 7 years younger then me), the first two she tried bucked her off, and now she is afraid they all will.

She did buy another horse a few months ago. I haven't seen him yet. From what she says he sounds like a very very good horse. She says she did ride him quite a bit when she first got him, but hasn't rode him in awhile now. And a few weeks ago she says she was patting him while he was eating and she "thinks", not sure, that he tried to bite her, so now she is afraid to ride him....

We talked alot about him yesterday, and she is going to bring him tomorrow and I'm going to work him on the lunge line (she has only free lunged him and he bucks like crazy doing that). I went over my opinion on free lunging and why, and she wants to see how he'll do for me on a line. If he works good, I'm going to get on him for her. From what she says, I think he'll be fine, and should be able to tell by lunging him.

Anyway, I understand compeletely about low confidence, but I think the only thing that will help her is riding alot more then she does. The horse she does ride is OK, but he's got a bit of a spooky attitude, at least according to her. She always rides behind me so it's hard to see what she is talking about. I've never really seen him do anything, but I don't like the look in his eye....hard to say, just a gut feeling, but from the sounds of it the one she's afraid of would be better, IMO. Maybe we'll find out tomorrow.

LOL...this one IS evil.

It tore loose from the hinge one other time because it got caught in the wind and bent it back too far. Mack fixed it, but I think because of rust and the weight , it's come loose again. I need to have the guys go thru it and get it fixed back up and painted. It's probably about 10 years old. We've replaced the floor once, but never done anything to the body. It's time.

From personal experience with these homes I would suggest that you call the home and see if he has returned. The family may still be looking and need any help they can get.

Sounds like she has a confidence problem regardless of horse... The business about the biting thing sounds like she's not completeley rational about it, it's in her head, like when I used to ski and I'd stand at the top of the bad part and psyche myself out just looking down at it. :~D

I hope you working with the horse and demonstrating for her works and she'll go forward again.

I've never met a horse that really liked to be pet when eating. They'd rather be left alone then. They'll at least pin their ears, perhaps stomp and swish tails. And I've seen the nicest horses make a biting motion but not connect. Horses guard their food. It's not the time for a belly pat.

I'm not even sure where the home is. They've never given an exact address, just the cross road it's closest and that's in my neighborhood. I didn't know there was a group home out here, I'm not aquainted with many of my neighbors now that the kids have left home.

She knows that the biggest problem is herself. I've pretty much learned most people won't listen when you try to help, so I've kept my mouth shut around her. BUT, yesterday I found out she did do the one thing I advised her to do when she got a new horse, back when she was looking at Rusty. The horse she has now gets very very herd bound according to her. She had an old horse at the time she couldn't ride. She donated that horse to someplace before she brought the new one home. I told her if she bought Rusty or any horse I would keep the two in seperate runs. And she did that. She says she'll do what ever she's told if it makes sense too her....She seems willing to listen so I'll give the lunging a go for her.
