The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Merry Christmas Everyone :)

Expect that my great nephew will have me awake at 5am tomorrow. He was learning how to make coffee today because I told him he couldn't wake me up until there was a pot of coffee made.

We've had a week of Christmas so far with dinners for each one so tomorrow it's just a buffett for whoever stops by. The kids are all going to their brother's house asfter they open presents so Bob and I plan on taking it easy.

Some very unhappy elves.

Snowman at the first of the week - snow is all melted now and only about 6" of snowman remains.

Bob and son and DIL and friends (marine home on leave)

Grandson with his first rifle.

Niece, her daughter and our grandson-

Good Morning and Merry Christmas Hair!!

How about a warm story this rainy morning......

http://www.waff.com/Global/story.asp?S=4285716

Dog 'adopts' abandoned calf

MARYVILLE, Tenn. When Maggie's mother abandoned her after giving birth, the black Angus calf was adopted by an unusual surrogate parent.
A dog named Vegas has stepped in to nurture the calf, much to the surprise of the animals' owners.

Maryville farmer Earl Best says Vegas is waiting to visit the calf when he goes to feed the cattle in the morning.

Earl's wife, Debbie Best, says if Maggie lays down, Vegas will either lay on top of her or next to her to protect her.

Although the Bests raise their cattle for beef, they've decided to keep Maggie as a pet because of her relationship with Vegas.

Very sweet indeed :~D

Although the Bests raise their cattle for beef, they've decided to keep Maggie as a pet because of her relationship with Vegas.

Heh... they say that now... we know someone else who bottle fed an orphan calf and got very attached... but when the animal became a very pushy 800 pounds, some of the affection wore off :~D

An electric fence does wnders in cases like that. Had several calves like that over the years. Some of them are still in the herd..... : )

It's easier with a heifer too like these folks have... A pushy spoiled steer, which our friend's was, wears thin faster.

The only difference I can tell is that pushy pet heifers grow up and have pushy babies. Something like "Monkey see, monkey do."

At times you get to thinking that them animuals are just too smart....... : )

They are smart...

They know that most days, rain or dounpour, they'd rather stand out in it than be in their nice dry barn. And they know they don't want to go out ~this~ morning when I need them too.

Have a good day Cav, I'm sure we'll check in later at some point. Have to get myself ready and on the road.

Good Morning and Merry Christmas! Kids went to the other side of the relatives last night, and I will have dinner today. In past years, they would head to Florida, but my son-in-law got a new job, and couldn't take off. I was going to go this year also, but with my co-worker only working 4 hours a day, it was impossible. Here are a few shots I took.

Alison all ready for party last night.

Alison trying on new ballerina outfit.

Son-law-law, Ben with new hat.

This one didn't come out too well. Biscuit got a new tail!

Hair, the cat's picture is so sweet!

Duchess, sounds like you have had a very busy week.

Everyone enjoy their holiday. It's in the 40's here today too.
