This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I'm so sorry about tuffy. What would be the reason that George doesn't have rotation and tuffy does?

Well, good morning. I thought I saw a big rain cloud over you today too, on the weather forecast.
His 'smut' does look darker... and the rest of him looks like it's getting lighter! Is this part of his coat change too, does he get lighter overall in winter?
I think today is suppose to be nice and the rain moves in tomorrow.
Yeah, his coat seems to lose alot of the more yellow/golden tone and turn more white. Maybe that is why the smut shows up more. I've noticed too that on his hips he seems dappled. I've been told that means they are getting too much protein???? I just don't agree with that since I know how much he gets. Not alot. 10%.

Dapples are a healthy and normal thing, I can see them in the pictures. I've never heard of them described as any kind of fault in diet. The pony has dapples that become more prominent during coat changes... Even Bay is mildly dappled and you can see it in some kinds of light.
My Mom "won" a gold fish at the fair. The next day she spent over 30 dollars on a tank and companions. When I left she had 4 in baggies waiting to get in:')
Forget about saving gas. Mass transit sucks. Next time I'm taking my car even if I have to take out a loan for gas:'). Are you feeling better? How about you , Duchess?
Wow! Those dark blotches are strange. It almost looks like he has a portwine birthmark on his shoulder, except it's black. Weird!
Good one, about the trash man. So sorry to hear about Tuffy's feet.

I don't know why Tuffy is worse than George but Hair has a good theory. George doesn't weigh 700 pounds soaking wet and Tuffy is pushing 1500.
Did the vet say to put Tuffy on a diet? or is he just that big?

Everybody I've ever heard who rode a bus said it sucked. I'd rather drive too. How'd your's and Reba's trail ride go? Hopefully it was better than the bus ride.
You and pictures lol. I went to a clinic Sat. to be evaluated by a woman that specializes in training "mature" women on equalizers. We took my mom so we could get pictures. She was all over the place, yelling at me to turn around so she could get my picture, yelling at me about what was wrong with Rebas horse (pics later) etc.
LOL...that's what I call it, his birth mark:). I had never heard of the smutty gene thing till Hair gave me the info last year. So far, no one who comments about his darks spots have heard of the smutty gene when I tell them. Everyone thinks he has appy in him, but according to his papers there is none anywhere in his background. It's funny when I tell them no app, and about the smutty thing they all seem skeptical. Jan made the comment that I can't repeat here, but meant that there was something in his background that maybe someone didn't admit or didn't know about.

Really. When I first got him and saw the round spots on his hips appy was the first thing I thought of too. I wondered about it till you found the info on the smut gene.

I don't know either... "Mature women on equalizers" sounds like middle aged women in comfortable shoes ;~D
