Really. When I first got him and saw the round spots on his hips appy was the first thing I thought of too. I wondered about it till you found the info on the smut gene.

Well, In my experience, you don't often see appys with dark spots on color. Usually darker spots appear either within a white blanket, or inside peacock spots that have their own white border. A palomino with dark spots would be unusual.
