The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I think this year I'm only baking 2 kinds of cookies, and buying the rest.

Harley got squirrely when I had to keep him in a small pen, but was fine when I rode him. In fact, I'm becoming more and more convinced that that was a major part of his colic episode the other night. I think he was stressed being in that pen. I don't think you'll have that problem if Waylon is being let out some every day. Harley was in solid for over a week before we could get things set up for him to get out. Plus it was miserably cold, and he wasn't drinking all that much.

LOL...that sounded funny even tho it's sad. I hope it works too. I really don't want to move the feeders but will if this continues to happen. I didn't know it would be this much of a problem. Altho, this might have saved one of the smaller type birds from being this hawks lunch:|.

I've really enjoyed my door. I've seen so many types that I've never noticed before.

Well, yes, it might have saved one of the smaller birds... but that hardly seems fair to take sides like that :~D

I've witnessed hawks grabbing little birds off our feeder.. It's a lot of drama on a quiet morning :~o

Oh, I'm not taking side:), just applying the old saying, "no great loss, without some small gain".

Well I'm going to go get that horse out of the closet and see how much damage I can do to it:). I'll take pictures of the process...at least it is sort of a horsey activity:)

Oh - dear there are a lot of parts...

Well, at least you have an understanding of horse anatomy, that may help you :~D

LOL, that might help, but Mack always says I'm such a girl when it comes to using tools:). And I have to use 4 differnt ones for this thing, hammer, phillips screwdriver, crescent wrench, and pliers:\.

Oh, and I had to laugh at myself. After I had every thing out of the box, I didn't even realize there was no head, till I heard rattleing inside the body when I picked it up..LOL...the head was turned upside down in the body, and the springs, screws, etc were in the head. Maybe I don't know horse anatomy.

Looks like an exploded horse!

My thoroughbred mare is so lethargic, but I have to wait until Monday for results from the biopsy.

Say - it looks like you figured out where the legs and head go!

Looks like a terrific rocking horse! Looks like you can even hang on to the mane when you get going good :~D

I think he's pretty neat:). The mane and tail are made out of heavy yard cord. I'm going to have to leave him in my living room for the evening:)

Poor baby. He was probably hauling when he hit the glass. He may have seen a reflection and thought it was prey.

Decals or sun-catchers will work. I like the plastic decals that cling without glue. You can get hawk or owl shapes.

We have 2-story glass in our kitchen, we have stuff hanging in the low windows, but birds occasionally still hit the high glass.

My Lab brings them in quite faithfully, and we manage to save about half of them.

Yeah, you were the one that gave me the idea to hang somethings in the window:) I don't want to block the view, I'm really enjoying it in the morning with my coffee, but maybe it won't take too many to make it more visible to the birds.

He did hit the glass hard. I was in the office and heard him hit, and I thought the glass would have been broken. I knew a bird was going to at least be hurt just from the sound.

But I did learn something, I didn't realize hawks came in such a small variety.

Those and the peregrines are the "ladies' hawks" - what knights' ladies used when they went hawking.

A friend of my dad's rehabs raptors. It's amazing how tiny and delicate the little hawks are.
