This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
That should be "my Aunt" made a carmel cake for me today! ARGH!!
COITSVILLE A tarp in Melody Wagner's South Hubbard Road covers the carcass of one of the family's sheep that was mauled by what she describes as wild dogs.
The dogs had gotten into a barn on the property between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday and either chased or dragged out one of the sheep, a pregnant ewe, and killed it for food. Three other sheep were attacked and injured, and Wagner isn't sure they can be saved.
"My husband went out to feed the animals, and as soon as he opened the barn, he heard barking," she said. "He came back to get a gun."
Wagner's husband, Tom Patterson, shot one of the dogs, but they fled the area.
Patterson said he saw two dogs in the barn, but it wasn't until they fled that he saw the dead sheep in the yard.
The couple found tracks from five or six dogs leading to their barn. They keep a small door open, allowing the sheep to move in and out.
Wagner said she's seen packs of dogs in the area for at least a year. Many people use the area to drop off dogs they no longer want, and the animals eventually join to hunt for food, she theorized.
Thanks, yes its pretty heavy. Tractor Supply has the nicest gifts for the horsey set.
Cav's been sick? Be right over to the SC.
Well I couldn't find your post but glad you are doing better. I make fudge every Christmas season. I've found that you can't always go by the temp, esp if it is cold or rainy outside. I just know when it's ready by how it stirs or slids off the spoon. If you don't get it thick enough though you can always add peanut butter and 3 minute oatmeal to thicken it up and have no bake cookies.
Just do your best to get better. That's all that anyone can ask.
Hey, it isn't nothing that a good teeth floating and deworming won't cure.........
A dome's pill or a chocolate exlax was my grandmother's cure all for anything :')
You were lucky, I got the spoonfull of castor oil treatment...........
If you aren't tired of hospitals and are tired of being cold, I work at a rehabilitation hospital. I can't eat there though because the food is so good. I could gain 5 lbs a week.:')
I could use the 5lb a week gain but no more hospitals and the cold. Not until Springtime when it is warmer.
We have an indoor pool
Now that is tempting..........
In the meantime - very easy, surefire fudge recipe.
4 1/2 cups of sugar 1 stick of butter 1 can evaporated milk 1 tsp vanilla
Bring to a boil and boil for ten minutes. Begin timing the boil as soon as the mixture starts to boil (not when it is already a rolling boil)
At the end of ten minutes, take off of the heat, add one jar of marshmellow creme and one package of chocolate chips.
Mix well, pour into a 9x13" well greased pan to cool. Works everytime.
Now that one is a keeper, Thanks!
Here is the one I used out of a Hershey's Cocoa Cookbook. The book has a copyright of 1979 to give you an idea of how old it is.
Fudge, 2/3 cup of Cocoa, 3 cups of sugar, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, 1 1/2 cups of milk.
1/4 cup of butter or margarine, 1 teaspoon vanilla (extract?)
Lightly grease 8 or 9 inch square pan. Thoroughly combine dry ingredients in a heavy 4-quart sauce-pan; stir in milk.
Bring to a "bubbly" boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Boil without stirring to 234 degrees F. (soft-ball stage) or until small amount of syrup dropped into very cold water forms a soft ball. Bulb of candy thermometer should not rest on bottom of saucepan. Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla. Do not stir.
Cool at room temperature to 110 degrees F. (pan is barely warm to touch) Beat with wooden spoon until fudge thickens and loses it gloss. Quickly spread in prepared pan. Cool completely; cut into 1-inch squares.
What happened? Did you get sick?
I have never been able to make any kind of candy that requires a ball, soft, hard or in between. My ex-mother-in-law gave me the recipe thirty five years ago and it's always worked.
I forgot to tell you, stir the whole time it's boiling. It is very easy though to make.
You betcha ... you know me, why do anything half way........ : )
Your recipe seems much easier and I will use it from now on, Thanks!
Well, making fudge is a pretty good way to gain at least five pounds a week ;~D
Good morning everyone :~D
I've been having headaches for two days... so it seems the Saddle Club thread is just not feeling well over all..
I hope we soon get over all this!
