The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh - bummer. Sick?

Does that mean you never did get to ride?

No I never rode. The wind has just kept it too cold, and with a cough keeping me up at night, I probably shouldn't get out in the wind. I think it's probably just these extreme temprature changes. Nothing serious, just no energy.

Well, get some rest then... I don't want you to be sickly for Christmas!

I sometimes get a little down this time of year, always makes me miss my mom... she made all the Holidays feel good... I'm left now with just ~guys~ who aren't much for the softer side of things :~D And I'm not my mom where creating that feeling goes.

Hey boy, I understand that. A few years after my mom died, my brother divorced and I was the only female other then Jenny, who was about 7. I've been doing the Christmas thing ever since for the family. My dad remarried about 7 years after my mom died, but Alice....well, I like her, and I'm glad my dad has her company, but she doesn't do much as far as family cheerfulness. It's almost funny how differnt she is from my mom, and that my dad married both:) Go figure. My mom wasn't big at holiday cheerfulness either, to be honest, but she did know how to make a family meal memorable.

There are things mom did, that the 'old matrons' of the family who are all gone now, did, that made things special... the food, that we would sing grace, and read the Christmas story from Luke... we just don't do any of that any more... it's good... I've come to not miss it so much, but for awhile I missed it, and would become depressed that I couldn't lead those traditions... I'm the youngest, and I have never felt like it was my place, or that I had the talent. I'm more like dad than my mom I think...

My dad's lady friend Dona is quite different from my mom too... She's really cheerful, it's just different, and I think I make her a little nervous. One of the first years at Christmas I had a little bit of a breakdown in tears about everything on the tree being different, and now she tries to make a point of not touching the tree I think. I think that's why there's two trees now, and she does her own. Heh... Families are funny and neurotic :~D

Thanks again. Wanted to tell you that I watched the LOTR's movies last weekend on tv in my hosp room. Still missing something to tie it all together though.

For the holidays I am attempting to make chocolate fudge candy. It all went well tonight except that I could not get the fudge up to the softball stage while boiling it. Not sure what the problem is but my candy temp indicator may be old and not work correctly anymore. I will let you know if I got it right as soon as it cools down........

Well, how was the fudge? :~D

What do you mean about needing something to tie the LoTR movies together?

Good morning!

Good Morning!

LOL! The fudge turned out to be a better cake frosting than candy. Oh but the pan licked out real good though...

Maybe I will get it right the next time.

The Hobbit did not give the ring to the person that is supposed to get it. I wanted to see that guy take names and kick rear ends.

Which guy did you think was supposed to get it?

No one was supposed to get it, it was evil... it would turn anyone evil who tried to use it... even the good guys. It ~had~ to be destroyed :~D

tsk. tsk... Inge Cav is tempted by the power of the ring ;~D

Better luck next time on the fudge frosting :~D

Now you tell me and I thought the good guy travelling with the Hobbits was supposed to wear it. Argh!!

Thanks, I had the temp on the fudge just a few degrees too cool. It was up to 221* but had to go to 234*, darn-it.

But that being a fairly major point in the story... I can understand how the movie doesn't make much sense if you missed that bit...

I think you'd better watch it again.... and pay attention! :~D

Good Morning. We are getting some of the effects, of this ice storm, heading for the East Coast. Nasty out!

Cav, I am so sorry to hear that you have been ill, and hospitalized. I hope and pray you will get better soon.

Pay attention in the first movie... the Council of Elrond where they are all sitting around deciding what to do... They cover all these issues... If you get all that, you can miss a few other things and not be lost :~D
