The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I really believe that when you start acting old, you get old. I posted it here before but I found an inspirational quote awhile back that asked "how old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?"

"how old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?"

Hmmmmm.....Somewhere in my early 40's. Life really does get better when you get older. Just as long as the good health keeps up.

Good Morning!

Good morning everyone!

Had a good ride yesterday on my mare. I had loaned her out to a new student who needed a super-reliable mount, so I was riding a green horse of my trainer's. He's adorable, a great big gawky black Tbred gelding but just a big sweet baby (I need a stepstool to get on him, and I still have to scramble a little. He must be more than 17 hh). He doesn't know much but he's very friendly and trusting, and he soon figured out that I wasn't going to overface him or ask him to do anything he couldn't do. He's relaxing and beginning to use his head and neck, and I actually got his hindquarters engaged (off and on). His biggest problem is that he tends to let his hind end drag and then he gets disorganized and looses his footing with his hind feet. But he jumps pretty well (just low stuff for now - 18" to 2') and he's beginning to understand that I'll put him in the right spot for takeoff.

But I was glad to get back on my girl. Unfortunately she has been goofing off with a beginner on her back, so we had a few little "discussions" but after half an hour or so she was back in harness. Jumped a nasty little twisty 2' - 2'3" handy hunter course on her and she did great (once she remembered to listen! she's been pretty much doing her own thing for the last 3 weeks.)

I'm glad that you had a great ride on both your mare and the gelding. I love hearing stories about great babies like that. They make me smile ear to ear.

AWRIGHT! Good Job! Now you gotta get to work on getting some presents under it. I did a little work on that last night. I can't find the gift wrap and tissue paper and I can never seem to find boxes that are the right size. Gift bags are looking better all the time!

Hey, what'd the Vet say about Homer's chin? Hopefully it's just zits. My setters used to get 'em all the time.

Hopefully she's just off shopping, but I don't remember her saying anything about going anywhere. She'll turn up soon I'm sure.
