The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Last year, when we got our tree, the first thing that my dog did was whiz on it. He thought he had died and gone to heaven because he finally got indoor plumbing! :-)
And by the way, I love that video. (And the "redneck drawl"!) ;-) Racking horses must be amazing to ride. It looks so comfortable.

Git dawg!

Us Easterners love that kind of talk.. :)

I was playing it again this morning at work, and someone wondered what the galloping was about.

Frog, I love your video......what kind of horse do you have? I'm sure you told me but I forget. I have a Rocky and couldn't ask for a smoother ride.

...Tuffy gets any bigger I'm gonna have to widen his stall door.

Hey, wait 'til he can't even fit in a 2-horse trailer! I got that problem with Tennessee.

LOL! It was more like "Leavat dawg a-lawn!" ;o)

Glad you liked the sound effects. I love the sound of a good even 4-beat gait. I thought it kind of appropriate that we were riding on an old railroad bed because the sound of their footfalls kinda reminds me of an old steam-powered train....chuga-chuga-chuga-chuga-chuga-chuga.

They're Racking Horses. Some of the ones in the video were Walking Horses. In most cases I really can't tell the difference. It's just a different registry. Rockies move pretty much the same way too. They're just differentiated by their color. Same with Spotted Saddle Horses. I really don't care what kind they are, as long as they're smooth. Fast is a secondary consideration for me, but not nearly as important as smooth. And I'd rather breed for smoothness than shoe for it coz sooner or later shoeing for it will give your horse foot troubles.

It's looking really good! I'm so glad for you, because I know you were concerned. I trust he's moving just like he always did?

He seems to be. It's still swollen quite a bit in the tendons down the back of that leg and along the cannon bone under the wound in the front, but I think that'll eventually go down once the wound heals completely and what ever blood vessels that were damaged grow back. I've even had people tell me that the hair might actually grow back, but I'll believe it when I see it.

It is looking alot better. I think the hair will grow back, It has a round the edges where it's healed.

Are you still treating it anyway?

I'd be hopeful too, that the hair will grow back.

Children are amazing aren't they. Are you gonna get all of it? Does she have a rocking horse? Those don't eat as much. No, I'm not out of school yet. Finals are on the 7th. The winter semester starts on the 14th.

I quit hosing and debriding it about a month ago since it started getting a nice healthy scab and I've quit spraying it with the Granulex since it got nice and flat. Now I'm down to just putting triple antibiotic ointment on it once a day. One of the guys I was riding with this weekend swears by Preparation H for healing up and shrinking wounds. I may try that and see how it works.

LOL! I've heard of being a Butt Head but that's a little extreme! ;o)

Seriously though, I had heard that it was good to put under your eyes to reduce the puffiness.

We're getting a little slushy snow and rain mix here... Are we ready for winter?

Nooooooooo! It rained a little bit here yesterday but today is gorgeous, although a bit nippy with a temp of about 45 and a 15mph wind. I don't care though, as long as I can see the sunshine, I'm happy.
